Thanks, Nicki! I love that garden. The pictures that include trees in the grass/perennial border are especially interesting to me because I'm pretty sure now I want include trees. I need more shade. It looks a lot like a Piet Ouldolf or "Dutch New Wave" garden (Noel Kingsbury also does that style) I've been checking out books from the library on these gardens and studying them. I love the look so much. But like you say they tend to be used in huge spaces, and my back yard as you know is pretty small. Another thing I'm considering is a variation on that look, where taller shrubs and some small trees are used along with the grasses and perennials, so that rather than being all open, you see only a part of the garden at a time. I can't decide if I want open and airy, like in the garden you've just shown me--where you can see everything at once, or if it would be better to do the "rooms" thing, where shrubs and small trees screen one part of the garden from another. I always read in the garden books that hiding part of the view creates "mystery," but I'm worried my space is too small and it might get cluttered or clausterphobic. What do you think? Bill

Dave, In the actual print article, those are the instructions in the "box". It just doesn't show like that online. I do agree that it would be relatively safe to do, except for the curd, which it doesn't say not to can. What gets me is the assumed knowledge. Like fill jars with set jam. How are you going to get set jam in the jar? Then, all they say is to seal with a lid. What kind of lid? What disappoints me is that newbies may following these instructions and end up with a mess, then never want to try again. Elaine

are you able to get to the corner of the browser window so that your cursor becomes double sided or 4 sided and then drag the edge of the window in to resize it? you should be able to do that from the bottom corners as well as the sides. Drag it out or in to where it fits your monitor and how you want it. Then shut down your browser completely with it in that size. It should keep the size on the next browser restart. There is also an add on for firefox browser if you happen to want to use it that allows you to resize with the push of a button. That add on is. DO NOT pull it out Minnie. If you have XP there is a small icon near the clock with a left facing arrow on it. Hover over and the info will appear. Click this then click the pop up to remove, wait till it says it is good to remove Windows 7. Right click on Start right click on the thumb drive on the left side of your screen in the pop up click to eject.
