Teeth Whitening in PSPX

Can anyone help here? I have tried to use the teeth whitening in PSPX, but when I click on the teeth the whole face and neck lighten. I have used the tanning and that works great. Am I doing something wrong? It does not give the option of the size toothbrush, so I just can't figure out how to just get the smile. I even tried using the selection tool using the magic wand, but again that doesn't do it. I followed the instructions and they just say to click on the smile.
Thanks,
Carol |

Carol, I used the freehand tool to select around the teeth. With strength @ 100, it whitens them a little. I keep clicking and moving. ~Urlee~ |

| Carol, I haven't had any trouble with it. I haven't had to select, but if you need to, that's a good idea. Zoom in if you need to, so you can see exactly where you are clicking. Be sure you click just once directly on one tooth, if it then needs more click again only on the tooth/teeth that didn't change. Joy |

I tried Urlee's method, selected then used tooth brush. Didn't seem to make any difference, tried clicking the tooth brush a couple of times. I ended up selecting and painting with paint brush low opacity. I'm really dissapointed with the toothbrush tool, that seemed to be such a great idea. Joy I wonder why it works for you, you say it just does the teeth? Here is their solution: Makeover tool whitens non-tooth areas when used to whiten teeth Details The Makeover tool can be set to Toothbrush mode to whiten teeth. Depending on the color of the other image content close to the teeth in the picture, that content may also be whitened. Answer Select the teeth using one of the Selection tools to prevent the Makeover tool from inadvertently whiting non-tooth areas in a photo. See the Working with Selections help topic for more information about creating selections in Paint Shop Pro X. To access help topics, go to Help : Help Topics from within Paint Shop Pro X. Thank for you help, Carol |

I agree Carol, "Crumb"! It doesn't work well like one would expect. I seen very little change when I used it! ~Urlee~ |

Urlee & Joy, or anyone else. Could you tell me the things you like best about X. Any major changes for the better, other than I heard it is supposed to be much quicker than PSP 8 and less crashes. Carol |

Carol, I had to uninstall and reinstall X cause it went kookie on me when I first started to use it. In the meantime, I have been using PSP8 because of some wonderful tools that PSP7 doesn't have but found it crashed alot which NEVER EVER happened to me in PSP7 so now I finally have to join the ranks of SAVING quite often or I end up doing over from scratch all the time and grinding my teeth! Didn't go back to X because of the different extension in saving. "Not a valid paint shop pro" thingy and can't be opened in 7 or 8 unless you take the time to change the extention before you save it. If I made up my mind to stick with just ONE PSP, then the extention part would be no problem but I am in Limbo right now! What I DID like about PSPX is the thumbnail layers palette. Didn't use it enough to judge it or find out how it is. Been meaning to ask Joy how she likes it and if she finds herself jumping back and forth from X to 9? How do you like it? ~Urlee~ |

| Ever since I updated my version 8 to 8.1 with the free online update it hasn't ever crashed or frozen. That was probably over a year and a half ago now. Even so, before that it only froze once or twice at most. On a side note, we recently increased our computer's RAM and it has made PSP run SO much faster and smoother. |

Hi Amy, 8.10 is my version. It freezes up often. Just as Urlee said if I don't remember to save often, I lose it. Our computer is new, 512MB Ram, so I think that is enough. I say that like I know what I'm talking about. I know our old one had much less ram. Carol |

Amy, This is what I am using::::::::::: I am running on 1GB RAM and 200GB hard drive. I don't know what you mean by fast & smooth as I see no difference between my PSP's other than 8&X taking longer to open! I forgot to mention that I really like the fact in PSPX that you click on Edit to paste something and it's there to click whereas in PSP8, another box has to pop up before you can click your choice. Sometimes those extra steps can be annoying if you are in a hurry.

Hey Carol, Your computer is faster than mine? We both posted the same time and you won? "LOL" Sorry to say, Glad to hear yours crashes like mine? Mine has a box that pops up saying I will lose all etc. etc. and if I want to write microsoft etc. etc. if I remember correctly? Maybe it has to do with something else which causes it to happen in PSP8? I will prnt screen it the next time it happens. ~Urlee~ |

Mine just freezes, I can't do anything except shut it (PSP8) down. Reason I absolutely kick myself when I forget to save often. Carol |

| Sorry, didn't mean to imply you didn't have the "right stuff." I didn't mean that at all, I was just "defending" version 8 because it's been so great for me. I just didn't remember if you had that version too. But could yours be corrupted and need re-installing? Because crashing isn't normal, obviously LOL. Just trying to help. By "faster and smoother" I mean for example when I've been working on a large multi-layered psp file for awhile, it used to take awhile for PSP to close that file when I hit "close" or the upper "x" and now it closes fast. I also used to have a little trouble with PSP lagging on certain functions if I was doing a lot of tool-use, and now nothing lags. We went from 256 to 768 (RAM) so that's probably why I see such a difference. |

Amy I knew you were just Praising PSP8 where I call it unstable."lol" I am going to see if I can use PSPX and if that goes goofy again, then I will use PSP8 unless it freezes too much on me. I'd like to get PSP9 for my last hope. ~Urlee~ |
RE: Teeth Whitening in PSPX

I read somewhere that PSP9 was the best version yet. Of course that may be just someones opinion, but they compared it to PSP8 & PSPX and said this was much more stable. I had been trying to find 9 but did not have much luck except on ebay. I have bought things on ebay and have had really good experiences, but someone I know who works with computers advised me to stay away from electronics and software on ebay. Carol |

I am with you on that Carol, If you find PSP9, let me buy it huh? "LOL" ~Urlee~ Don't know what happened but I had to log in this morning on here. Kept my fingers crossed that it wasn't horsed up in GW to keep from posting? OH I SEE! I am stuck with all the advertisement jumping up and down! |

Same here Urlee, I thought my husband had cleaned out the temp files and that was why I had to log in. But after I did I still had the ads and the first page of Graphics & Scanning had all the post on the left side of the page. Then I was blaming him for changing the settings somehow. Glad to hear it isn't just me. Carol |

| If you need another method for lightening teeth, here's one I did yesterday.....I zoomed in VERY close to the mouth in question; used the freehand selection tool to select JUST the teeth; promoted that selection to a layer; then played with the hue/saturation/lightness levels to get them looking white but natural; then I deselected, and used the soften tool around the edges. Finally, to redefine the tooth edges I used the push tool set on 1 just to push a bit of the white layer around to reshape the teeth. That step is optional. Another optional step is to adjust the opacity of the tooth layer just a tidbit. Then merge layers, & save. |

Sounds great Amy, Thanks for sharing! Man, I hate this having to log in all the time. Half the time I don't come on cause of it! ~Urlee~ |
RE: Teeth Whitening in PSPX

Amy, this works and is easy.... Select the teeth.... Adjust > Brightness/Contrast > Gamma Correction... Enable: Link > set to 1.5 Use 'Soften Brush' around edges (where selection was) if softening is needed. Urlee wrote: "Man, I hate this having to log in all the time. Half the time I don't come on cause of it! ~Urlee~" AMEN! I'll see you when they get it fixed. Joy |

Thank you Joy, I copied and pasted your suggestion into my PSP tips folder Carol |

| My extra step of promoting the selection to a layer is just in case I would really screw up the original layer. LOL |
