Long time since I've done decoupage but anyone burning anything on edges hold it over the kitchen sink if it flares up you have water on hand!! Can see some newbies getting in trouble here!! Want everyone to be safe!! I recently made cookies & the wax paper was about 8 in. from stove,I had put the cookies away but had some others to frost. I put water in a pan & turned on gas stove, that wax paper shot over & flames were going above the stove hood, I dumped the water I had just put on stove on it to get it out. I had had waxed paper there a thousand times over the yrs. Don't know what caused it to "creep" to heat & was really scarey. We don't know what they are putting in things these days so use the sink!! DH and I saw this series, by an artist named Patrick Bastardoz, at a gallery in Paris and fell in love. We bought one painting of the series. I grew up in an industrial city in the Midwest, he grew up in Glasgow, and this reminded us both of the rusting waterfront areas of our respective cities in the late 70s through mid-80s, before each city underwent a revival. The second piece was a wedding gift from a friend. The artist, Peter Howson, did a disturbing series of ink drawings from his time in Bosnia during the war. I saw this one in a Glasgow gallery and couldn't stop thinking about it. And on a much lighter note, we saw this installation at a gallery in New Orleans in February, and I'm still trying to convince DH that we need a few balloons, badly, in our living area (they're larger than they appear in this photo, each about 8-12" long): This post was edited by zeebee on Tue, Oct 22, 13 at 14:18

Before our recent remodel my house interior was Dover White, flat finish on walls and Dover White wood trim in semigloss. My downstairs floor plan is mostly open and I was happy with the combination. Dover White is a shade that will change throughout the day's light and it played well with all the colors in my furnishings. And it never looked too harsh, to me, during cold winter months, as some whites can. We replaced our natural maple stained cabinets with white (a creamy white cabinet manufacturer calls Buttercream) and we have light stone counters. I wanted a subtle color on my walls as contrast to all the white. We Chose BM Carrington Beige and I just love how it makes all my white trim and our mantel pop. It is a chameleon shade that reads greenish, at times. Other times it's warm with a subtle golden glow. The name "beige" IMO, is not very representative of this color. You may want to check it out in your search.

@violetcooks I am so glad you found a color that makes you happy and works with the lighting and other colors in your home. I asked a few months ago how you felt about Natural Linen because I was in a situation where I had to pick a color for someone else's home and I couldn't go into the space to test colors. (They were moving into an assisted living apartment.) All I had was flooring, cabinet and countertop samples and knew the trim color. In this case the Flooring was a weathered wood LVP that had some browns and some grays and the grays had that touch of purple. I struggled between Canvas Tan and Natural Linen, but next to the flooring the Canvas Tan pulled green. We went with Natural Linen and it worked out perfectly. The owner is thrilled and tells everyone what a perfect neutral I picked. I was holding my breath the entire time they were waiting to see the finished apartment and move in.
