The red leaves are most likely a sign of stress. Could it be disease? - That's possible, but unlikely if they were in good shape when you got them. Lack of nutrients? - Nope, forget that one. Watering every day? - Should only be done if you have very very sharply draining soil. You really need to test soil moisture (down a few inches below the surface) to determine when to water. Longer (deeper), less frequent watering is much better than shorter (quick), frequent watering. Post some pictures AND tell us about how your crapes were planted (especially details about planting depth, root preparation, and soil amendments used). Speaking or Red Rockets, I have planted one in my back yard that just recently bloomed for the first time, and the blooms came out PINK!? I'm really upset about it, because I really liked the color of red rockets that I have seen on the internet and was pretty excited about seeing it bloom.... I spoke with someone at millburgers' in san antonio where i bought the 5 gallon plant a couple of months ago and they told me that all of their red rockets are blooming pink at the moment... they told me to give the blooms a chance to mature and that maybe they would change color.... Is this right? do the red rocket blooms change as they get older??

The plant is ok, there's nothing wrong with it. It's just producing large amounts of anthocyanin (red pigments) in the leaves maybe in response to the large amount of sun it gets. Actually the flowers can fade on cloudy days because it doesn't get enough sun i think.

try this link to the nursery who patented this variety of crape with dark foliage. Black Diamond crapes they have not been available for too many years and the one in your photo is quite large but i know they can be fairly quick growers. however, the website says they max out at about 12'. the flower color on the one in your photo doesn't seem to match any in their gallery. also, the foliage is very nearly black on the ones i have seen around here, showing less green than your foliage photo. clemson university has a good section on crapes that might be worth checking out.
