Save $ on dog treats--here are some recipes

Audrey, these are for you (and for anyone else who might want to try them). I realize that this forum is not the one for recipes, but these are money-savers. They are comparable to ones I've seen in pet stores for a fraction of the cost. I usually mix these in my food processor since the dough can be stiff. If you don't have a dog-bone shaped cookie cutter, any cookie cutter will do, or cut the dough into rectangular strips. Great Christmas treats for your canine friends! (I've adjusted/omitted some of the ingredients, depending on what I had. You probably know not to use onion/ onion salt since it's not good for dogs.)

Healthy Dog biscuits

1/2 c Milk powder
1 Egg, well beaten
2 1/2 c Flour (I use about 2 c whole wheat + 1/2 c white)
1/2 tsp Garlic/ salt
1 1/2 tsp Brown sugar
1/2 c Water
6 tbsp Gravy (I sometimes omit)
1 jar baby food (meat)

Combine and shape into ball and roll on floured board. Use extra flour if needed. Cut. Bake at 350F for 25-30 minutes. Cool.

Cheese Treats
4 cups whole wheat flour
3/4 cup vegetable oil
3 tsp. garlic powder
2 eggs, beaten
1 1/4 cup shredded cheese
1 1/4 cup milk
Combine flour and garlic powder in a large bowl.
Gradually stir-in vegetable oil, cheese, beaten egg, milk and blend well. Roll-out dough to desired thickness. Cut-out treats and place on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake 25 minutes at 400o . Cool before storing. Note: cooking time may vary depending upon thickness.

Peanut Treats
2 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
3/4 cup all purpose flour
1 1/4 Tbsp baking powder
1 1/4 cup peanut butter
1 cup milk
Combine flour and baking powder in a large bowl.
Combine milk and peanut butter in a separate bowl and mix until smooth.
Gradually stir peanut butter mixture into flour in the larger bowl.
Knead dough by-hand and roll-out on floured surface to desired thickness. Cut-out treats. Place aluminum foil on cookie sheet and bake 15 minutes at 400o . Cool before storing. Note: cooking time may vary depending upon thickness.

These are great. I agree dog treats from a pet store are high-priced. Wish someone knew how to make cat treats. . .
