Bent and Dent Stores-Do you have one?

| I can get some good bargains at mine such as family size Chicken and Rice for 99 cents and Armour Corned Beef Hash for 69 cents. Down side is I must watch expiration dates on each item and I never know what they will have. Up side is saving money and finding things that are not in chain stores here. What do you think? | Yes! Central Discount Grocery. Its an Amish run store and only open three days of the week. I find the most unusual things there. I think the celery soda was probably at the top of the weird foods available list. I try to go stock up on canned veggies, cereals and hamburger helper about once a month. |

| Ooh, I love celery soda! Too bad I'm nowhere near you. We have a couple of "salvage" food stores in the less-fancy parts of town. There can be some excellent values, but you need to be careful of stuff that's frozen (often no way to tell how well it's been kept) or of "fragile" food (e.g., chips, ice-cream cones) that were not treated well in shipping. You also have to get used to the idea that, if you like it, buy as much as you can use because you may never see it again. |

| we have 99cent only stores and lots of similar ones, they have fresh food -bags of onions or potatoes for 99cents, etc. as well as a variety of canned goods that may not have been popular.like diced water chestnuts, instead of the more popular sliced. sometimes new products that didn't go over well enough.Trader Joe (we are in socalif. ) is a popular chain that started by featuring discontinued items. haven't seen a dent store though we have lots of outlets--bakery and otherwise. |

| Sounds like a bargain. My DH loves the 99 cent store near us. He has bought the darndest things there, including a large container of Oxyclean, boxes of dishwasher detergent, instant packages of capacchino (sp?), washcloths and a lock for his gym locker. Anytime I buy anything, he asks "Did you try the 99 cent store first?" I must say I've been doing a bit of lying to that one! |
