Electric company changing charges

I read in this forum earlier about power companies charging different rates at different hours of the day. Well our company just sent a notice that next year they will start a program, if you volunteer for it, to put a box on our meter and it will measure usage and charge different rates with the day divided into 2 or 3 periods a 24 hour day. Has anyone heard of these boxes before? I guess it's the only way to charge the right amount for the right hours. Luckily I know someone at our power company and will check it out with him first. Sounds good to me, do your laundry, oven cleaning, showering/bathing, etc during the low hours. Is anyone else involved in this program and have you seen a difference in monthly bills?
