What a treat to find, Nay...must have been bittersweet...I didn't know Frank well, but I sure do remember him fondly...he let me give him a tour of my yard..and when I had trouble pronouncing the name of a rose, he told me, that he tried not to have roses, with names that he could not pronounce...made sense to me, it ia a wonderful rule!

Thanks, Jean and Carol. Yes, I think iris and daylilies fit in well in rose beds. Even when not blooming, the foliage hides the roses' skinny legs! Some are concerned they will get too much nitrogen, but that hasn't been a big problem for me. And, Carol, since you are in the area, I got Different Flavors at a Dallas Iris Society sale. For your information, the next sales are on August 9 and September 6 at North Haven Gardens in Dallas. Also, this Sunday is their Iris Show. Last year from Christmas I decopodged this poem and made a bank for my daughter out of a mason jar. Painted the jar, decopodged the poem, used kitty rub on's and tied a ribbon with tiny bells around the rim of the jar. I also cut a slit for the money to be dropped in. Not much for a penny. Do they have penny slots in Vegas? Maybe, and the jackpot would be $1. Sometimes they have buy one get one for a penny offer. Years ago, those ponies were 25 cents, so if you saw one for a penny that was a deal. Can you imagine my now grown son just recently grumbled to me that I always walked past those ponies and would not let him ride!! Next time we see one I'll offer to pay for him to ride, so if you see a grown man on a pony, that will be my son.
