Have you seen Exteme Cheapskates?

I was channel surfing and found Extreme Cheapskates on TLC. One guy lives with 2 other guys, charges them rent. These slobs flush the toilet once a week (Yikes!). He goes to restaurants that have plastic plates and cuttlery,which he wipes off and takes the plastic home; another guy takes his wife to an ice cream stand and asks for free samples. Still another eats Salmon fishheads because the fish store will give him the carcasses free or very cheap, like $4 for ten pounds. Gross and cheap!

Yes, Jannie,

I like the woman (not) who is too cheap to purchase TP or paper towels, yet lives in an overpriced apartment in NYC.

Insane! (and not in a good way)

My worst gardening mistake was when I was just starting, and had inherited an old, mature garden. The mistake was to get a lot of books on roses, and read them, and believe what they said! It took me a while to learn that only LOCAL advice re the size, habit, health, & pruning needs of roses was of any use (most of the books I got were written in England or the US East Coast - both equally useless as to facts about how roses grow here, but gorgeous pictures, etc.). The books were so authoritative, and stated things as facts, period, without any qualifications (except for Graham Thomas, bless him, who always said that this is what this rose does where I garden, but I have heard that it behaves differently elsewhere...) that I was intimidated into believing them. Only after years of having some of my ancient roses identified by wonderful people on this forum did I realize that they were not freaks of nature, but behaved exactly as you would expect such a rose to behave in our climate... Knowing how ignorant I was, and wanting so much to take good care of the garden I had inherited, I also unfortunately took the advice of the ARS and others about the need for spraying constantly, but only for one or two years - it was just too silly, and too much work, and I gave up. Then all of the bees and butterflies, etc came back, and the roses were still happy. So, the main lesson turned out to be to trust your own eyes about what is going on in your garden, what grows & doesn't grow, and what you like & don't like, and don't take any advice unless it is LOCAL! I have to agree with the inspector here (are you doing your kitchen under code with proper permits? Because if so, his advice will matter...they don't pass burried wires). I added two runs for future lighting on our deck when the walls were ripped out and we finished them in the box and capped them off under a blank plate for future use. There is no fire danger this way, which is a big deal. Some code issues are umm silly (don't read that mr. inspector LOL) like the requirements to have UL stickers on all lighting (they didn't exist on antique lights) but free wires running around the walls...that's one I feel quite comfortable conforming with. I love my under cabinet lighting. I suppose it depends on the kitchen layout and your other lighting options, but if it were me, I'd do the plug in lighting verses the battery stuff. I've used those, and they're ok, but not that great. I have them in our master closet and they do work well there (set to turn on when the door opens) but for any longer than a few mins, they're useless IMO. I put battery ones in my mom's house and they really make a difference for her functionality.

You all are awesome! Please be advised that, armed with the fortitude of a herd of digital supporters, I marched right into the store at lunch and ordered the furniture. It is done! Can I just say what great insight you all have? sweeby said: "You've got a huge investment in architecture - and you want to devalue that investment with misfit furniture?" And kgwlisa said "IMO you already started down the path when you got rid of one perfectly good house for another. Might as well stay the course now ;)." And kec said "I try and live by 2 practices: 1. This ain't the dress rehearsal so step up and do it! and 2. I won't be lining my coffin/urn with dollars/currency, so might as well enjoy it while I'm alive!" I agree! And, yes, that was me on Craigslist. I decided more than a week ago the prices were too high, but the confounded site timed me out FOUR TIMES when I tried to relist with lower prices. I'm going to give it a go again this weekend with rock bottom prices. If no go, then next weekend we'll take them to a consignment shop. We've racked our brains for folks who could use the furniture. But everyone we know right now with twenty-something kids is having the kids move BACK HOME rather than out. I do know of some hooligan kids, but they would tear the stuff up faster than you can roll a cigarette paper. I can't do that to the stuff. We're still trying to think of someone else who might need it, though. So, the new pieces will be here on 11/29. Then I will be back, confused about how to arrange everything in the 11' x 19' living room that has only 15' total of wall space. Thanks again!

We rented an old house before I bought this old house. They were doing major road work at the end of the block for about a year. We kept having issues with the lines backing up. LL came out once and had them roto-rootered. He accused me of flushing diapers or feminine products (of course not). When the sewage began backing up into the 1st floor tub when the washer ran, I finally threatened to call the city code inspector. He got someone out with a camera - turns out the State construction crews had cut the line off because it wasn't on any maps - the sewage had been slowly draining into the empty field, then finally backed up the 200 ft to the house. We moved not long after, but things improved until we did.

I saw bits and pieces of the show, found it disgusting, and thought how TLC has once again stooped to a new low.

Doesn't TLC stand for The Learning Channel? Initially, didn't it offer quality family programming? Now I just think of it as one of the trash TV channels, with nothing of value or interest to me.

I was married to an extreme cheapskate - don't want to watch it on TV now!!!! LOl

He still will spend 2 hours to avoid spending a nickle. My time is too valuable to go through the contortions he does to save a few pennies.

I realized my boyfriend/ now husband was a cheapskate when he'd take me out to dinner then calculate the tip to the exact penny. It doesn't get better.

Hate cheap. Hate hate hate it. I asked a friend to chip in $60(5 friends-we chipped in $120 the others $60ea.) for a group gift(Andirondack chair & cushion) for our good dear -generous- friend who bought a house. Well MR. CHEAP handed me the money so tightly folded it was like I was selling him coke. How was your vacation ?..."Oh we found some excellent cheap buffets..."
