Composting paper towels/plates
Comments (20)The inks today are generally considered to be perfectly safe to add to piles. They are devoid of the heavy metals that used to be a concern for some packaging. I add huge amounts of paper and paper products to the pile. Note that these materials are almost pure carbon, but that they can, in fact, contribute to garden fertility. The reason is that the carbon acts as a base for bacteria which develop which fix atmospheric nitrogen. So, for a very carbon rich feedstock, you can end up with more nitrogen than you input in feedstock. For fastest decomposition, however, a bit of nitrogen material will really help. Comments (8)I would only put them in a few drawers initially. Later, if you find you could use more drawers with that kind of divider, it seems you could retro-fit the drawers. I was planning on adding dividers to my dish drawer later, but used non-skid mats as a temporary solution and have had no problems, so I will just leave things as they are. My drawers are 30" wide and 11" deep. I had also looked at the Ikea plate dividers but decided their sizes would be too restrictive and at about $10 each times 6 stacks, they would be almost as expensive as the Hafele....See MoreStorage of paper plates, cups etc
Comments (24)They are with the picnic/potluck/party stuff in a spare room closet. I like themed party ware for grand kids and my Red Hat group so I pick patterns that catch my eye on sale. I keep various insulated carriers and picnic totes there also. I have over sized plastic shoebox type bins dedicated to certain holidays I have labeled. Those hold holiday cookie cutters, cake toppers, cupcake liners/wrappers, treat bags etc. along with the plates, napkins etc. for that theme. They stack nicely on a shelf. We don't use everyday paper things other than paper towels and plain napkins. Not even for when we grill outdoors....See MoreFixing plaster wall hole and re-installing toilet paper holder
Comments (15)Nancy- A single, typical threaded insert has a pullout strength of at least 80 pounds, so they are entirely adequate for this job as long as the size is properly matched to the hole. The fastener you are talking about -- a molly bolt with a wing nut -- is not as good in my opinion as the nut makes a hole much bigger in diameter than the bolt itself. Over time this can allow something that is used frequently (like a TP holder) to move around a bit and sometimes the bolt loosens. An alternative molly bolt that does not have this problem is a hollow drive molly bolt that does not have a separate nut but consists of a tubular shaft that compresses behind the wall when the bolt is screwed in; the shaft fills the hole so there is no wiggling around of the bolt. However, the hole must match the fastener diameter; if the hole is oversize it can't be properly set. It also has the advantage that you can remove and reinsert the bolt repeatedly since the tube part doesn't fall behind the wall like the single use wing nut style....See Morewestern_pa_luann
