Suggest you take a look at your credit report (not score). It's free once a year at Annual Credit Report dot com. Then challenge anything that's not right. The main thing (I understand) is to keep use of credit low , make payments on time, and always pay at least the minimum. If you have any old credit accounts (maybe store credit cards) keep them open. There's no one you can "call" about this. Any protests about your credit info should be made in writing. The mailing addresses of the 3 credit bureaus are readily available. It takes some time for a credit score to change. Don't keep checking. Wait a few months before you check it again. Good luck.

I got hit by the credit score problem last May on my car insurance. It did not matter that I had a high credit score my score had dropped because on the one credit card that I have I had more charged than the 7% of the credit amount which in this case was more than $1200. Waiting to see what the rate has been increased this time. Rate increased 5% but person at Credit reporting agency did not understand why I was upset since I still had a good score. Scores do not always mean anything.

Although Bry911 states scores over 800 you should just relax with a drop the 5 point drop I received did effect the cost of my car and house insurance. Car insurance uses a different score and credit pulls typically don't change the score. Home insurance can change because of credit pulls but it is a fairly minor change. In either situation an 800 FICO without a lot of credit card debt as the OP stated will return insurance scores close to 950, anything above an 800 is going to keep you in the lowest rate. In fact, it is hard to have a bad insurance pull with credit above a 720. Bry mentioned a 25 pt drop but I did not see that number in any of the remaining posts. A hard pull drops your credit between 2 and 4 points per pull for 1 year with old pulls sometimes having a diminished effect. The higher and lower your score the higher the effect on your credit, additionally if you have old pulls but no recent pulls that doesn't hurt your score as much as old pulls plus recent pulls. In other words consistently pulling your credit hurts more than the same number of pulls at one time then a long break. It is impossible to accurately calculate the effect of a monthly hard pull but we can guess that at an 800+ credit score it is somewhere between 20 and 30 points.

A lot of people probably think “oh that’s in China”. It could easily happen anywhere. It is very scary. They have cameras everywhere and are able to recognize people on the street within an 80-90% accuracy. They can use this to keep people from being able to fly, buy a house and many other things. And where does the line get drawn as what those in charge deem as “bad behavior”. I’m sure there are people here that think it couldn’t happen here or it would be a long ways away. Technology is everywhere and it’s increasing. There are cell towers popping up everywhere, we have smart phones and cars that have gps that can track where we are. Even our appliances are becoming “smart”. Refrigerators, thermostats, electricity meters on our homes, speakers, radios, personal assistants (Alexa). I’ve even seen a cat box and an instant pot with WiFi. They are working on rolling out 5g internet. There just isn’t much info on the effects of all of this on humans. I know it may sound paranoid and I don’t mean for it to. I’m just saying we just need to pay attention to things going on around us. We’re all so busy. One day we may look up and wonder how things have changed so much and how we didn’t notice. I just wanted to bring this up to see your thoughts on it to have a civil conversation.
