Off topic: A sad tale but also true...

A widow friend of mine was telling me today about the touble she is having with her only remaining child. Child I say tongue in cheek. This 40 year old male doesn't seem to be able to hold down a job for any great length of time, cannot control his spending and has been bailed out by his mama every time over the years....now at last she said ENOUGH..and he became angry said...Why are you stopping now? The reason....she has only enough for herself now. He says it all comes to him anyway in the end...and why should he wait....I say it is a good move on her part, but perhaps too little too late....but what a sad tale. I think he needs a swift kick in the hind end.

Hi, Buster! Yep, I agree with you. Sounds like the only attachment he feels to Mama is the one that comes on the check! Awww, man! People like that kill me.

Tell Momma to send kid to SSI Disability claims, Got a cousin on that for his mental diabilities. Might be bi-polar.

Yep, it's true. If dear neighbor has a great lawn, did you think he was trying to sabatoge you? Weeds want the same basics that grass wants, air and water. The only thing is, they want them in different way and utilize them differently. Keep the grass higher than the weeds to shade the weeds from sunlight and smother oxygen. Deep water to irrigate grass roots because weeds are basically shallow-rooted and like shallow water conditions. But, there is more to mowing that best serves the grass plants, themselves. And don't be afraid of the weedkiller. It is likely you have bluegrass (please correct me if I'm wrong) in your lawn and maybe other species along with it, but the bluegrass, given the opportunity, will fill in the empty spots. One good thing for you is it isn't a good idea to broadcast herbicide anyway (although I must admit I would probably do that being the way you describe your lawn LOL), so just get a trigger spray and spot spray some at a time. Give the grass a couple weeks and spot spray some more. I am suggesting this along with a good maintenance schedule to follow. Scroll down that link for schedule outlined in red. Pay particular attention to the paragraphs on watering and mowing. I feel like a broken record because I say that so often, but it is necessary and very important.

Taken from Stone Business Online: Friday, 15 August 2008 Maurizio Bertoli, 64, of Keansburg, N.J., died Aug. 14 when his vehicle was hit by flying debris on Interstate 95 south of downtown Philadelphia. His wife, Laura, received minor injuries in the accident, according to local news accounts. A set of dual tires broke off the real axle of a southbound semi-trailer rig, according to Pennsylvania State Police investigators, and flew into oncoming northbound traffic on the freeway. One tire hit a vehicle and caused minor damage, but that same tire then struck the windshield that Honda Odyssey that Bertoli was driving. He died at the scene. Maurizio BertoliBertoli earned a reputation as an internationally recognized stone-care expert, often as the "answer man" for questions posed on Websites such as gardenweb.com and his own mbstone.com. He also formulated and sold his own line of stone-care products for the past 18 years. Bertoli began his career in the stone trade in 1959 as a 16-year-old taking a summer job at a marble fabricator in Parma, Italy. He worked for five years as a floor setter for a Parma marble-flooring company while completing his university education; he bought the company in 1969 and received his degree a year later. Bertoli expanded the company during the next ten years, while also studying geology and chemistry as applied to natural stone. Definitely would do the same... check around on the street for throw out containers. ESPECIALLY chinese restaurants who seem to go through a plastic jug of oil every day. I get these, wash them out and cut the tops off.. They work great. Food stores and restuarants also often throw out big 5 gallon plastic buckets that once held everything from dish soap to feta cheese. Don't forget to put several drainage holes in the bottoms

I'm so sorry to here about the direction you're headed... it's not an easy path to follow. BTDT. Please remember to take care of yourself too. One thing for your DH's soothies. My DH could only have liquids but had a dairy allergy. Grainlady suggested adding Great Lakes Gelatine - Collagen Hydolysate to his fruit or meat smoothies to add protein and needed amino acids... in the green colored can. I got it thru' Amazon from whichever vendor was cheapest because it's not inexpensive.... about $18 a big can... which lasts for awhile. My best wishes for you this holiday season. Kate

Sounds like he's just severely spoiled! Yet would probably enjoy having a condition with a name so he can continue to get away with it. And to say that it will eventually come to him anyway - that's terrible. Sounds like he might be using the money for drugs to fuel some other habit that could get him in trouble if he doesn't pay.

It does sound threatening! Funny what Gina said, though. As I read the original post I thought of a family member (who has passed away) who had the same attitude toward his father. He used to visit, and while he was there, he would clean the house like crazy and take care of everything. He had the attitude that if he was there when his father died, it would all be his, (never mind his other siblings.) He would inevitable have a fight with his father and was kicked out until the next time. He was diagnosed bi-polar. So, as I read it, I thought: bi-polar. If not, then very sad.

I love Dr. Phil, so I'll quote him. He says, "we teach people how to treat us." As with other lessons that we teach our children, it may not seem it at the time, but it's always easiest to teach the lesson when they're young, the first time it comes up, rather than to let it slide until they get older. It's also a terrible disservice to our children to indulge them. We think that we're helping them, but we're really hindering their development, as in the case above. Of course none of this is relevant if he is bi-polar. Perhaps this discussion belongs on the parenting forum. I feel very badly for your widow friend. I know several people who are in similar situations with their overindulged adult "children," but they haven't said "NO" yet.

My old Dad, a farmer, said when I was a kid that if you try to wean a calf from its mother's milk when it's a couple of months old, you can achieve your purpose with next to no complications ...

... but if you wait until the little critter has grown to be a year or so old, that it'll break down walls, bust through fences and cause all kinds of mayhem ... to get to its mother.

Pretty hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

It looks as though at least some of us humans may be cut from pretty well the same cloth.

This story may be more than ten years old ... but the issue is still current, for many.

SAd..he may have a disorder called antisocail personality disorder or narcissistic personality disorder. They are very hard to deal with, unfortunatly most of us are going to deal with one at some point in our lives. They never go for counseling on their own either. I suggest everyone do a little reading on this to protect yourselves.

He was in his 40s when the original post was done 11 years ago. July 26, 2003. I wonder what happened?
