There is a forum in the garden web called harvest that is great for learning to can and preserve and freeze. Anybody with gardens needs to see it. I have learned so much!

Thanks for the info. I have been wanting to learn this and have questions that don't really seem to get answered in the books, so that forum will definitely be a big help. Thanks again!

Yup, this is the place to be for the true and simple solutions. Yes, it can get messy. If so, and its from the spatter guard area, you can either cover over the open area and catch bowl with plastic wrap or foil. There is usually clear plastic 'cone' that snaps onto the smaller open end of the conical strainers, and there you put the waste bowl, and you can also cover that area too with plastic wrap. This will help some. If its in the hopper (top) area, where you get spatter there, you break the poms into smaller pieces. One way to reduce the juice spatter while breakingtem apart is to put the peeled poms one at a time in a zipper bag and tear apart chunks through the plastic bag. Then open it, and pour the stuff into the hopper/funnel on top. Time to make some nice and unique pomegranate jelly, or even add some cranberry juice and and make it as a mix of the two. Very good and healthy. Wish I could grow those things here in Z6.

I'm going to be wishy-washy. I also have thought that a FAQ would be great. But then I've thought - what would be any different about a FAQ than what's found in my BBB? I think the answer to that question comes down to exactly what Kay said, it's the subleties in the questions. People (usually) ask a question because they think that the answers found in BBB do not, for some reason, apply to the particular situation in question. Does that make sense? So I would be inclined to think the same would happen with a FAQ. If a person reads it (and that can be a big if), they will think that their specific question is not answered, so they will go ahead and ask. On the other hand, I would love love love an easily accessible compendium of tried and true recipes. I have often found myself wanting to do something new and thinking "hmmm, I know I saw that discussed a year or so ago, let's see if I can find it". Sometimes I can find it, sometimes not. Finally, I wholeheartedly agree with Kay and jt - those of you who answer the same questions (or variations of) over and over and over are awesome. Up top where it says forums, you were right, go to the Garden Forums, or use bottom of the page and go to Garden Forums from there. The Harvest forum is in the left section, bottom of the top section, under The Kitchen Garden... shows Fruit, Veg, Herbs, Herbalism and... Harvest. Think we have you covered. LOL. Good luck.

Same here. lol. Thanks for posting that. I have hardly ever visited this forum, but I also came here today looking and wondering in what forum to post a question about putting up some jelly. (figured I could ask here and at least the "$ saving tips" people would know something) Never occurred to me to look in "harvest" forum, but that does make sense, doesn't it. Thanks. :)

Isn't it satisfying to learn something of consequence: doesn't it just make your day to learn something worthwhile?

I've said to many people over the years, "It's a poor day that you don't learn something!".

I plan to send a copy of this to my daughter: I expect that she'll get a little mischievous smile on her face and think, "Haven't I just heard *that* from him a number of times!".

She's living nearby (with her mother) temporarily, these days, as she's able to carry on her work counselling groups of outplaced employees from wherever she has the right internet connection. Her brother and I met her while travelling on the intercity expressway (Highway 401, Toronto - London) a couple of weeks ago.

In a recent online survey where they asked which we'd like of more money, more intelligence, friends, and a couple of other choices, I chose more intelligence (sorry to disappoint any here that feel that my main interest is money) and I found that about half of the respondents said, "Money".

I hereby offer my thanks to everyone here who has contributed to my better understanding of what makes the world go round.
