Does a new bread machine ' Zojirushi'use a lot of energy?

We recenly bought it and use it twice a week or more. Anybody knows how sufficient is it for energy savings. I guess it is cheaper to use for making bread than old type gas stove?

Any info is very helpful! Thank you for any input.

I found these specifications in my owner's manual for a Model: BBCC-X20

Power consumption:
Heater-600W
Motor-100W

You would need to attach a Kill-A-Watt meter on your bread machine, set at the cost of electricity from your energy source, to find out exactly how much electricity it uses for a particular setting.

You can get Kill-A-Watt meters any number of places, including Amazon.com. We purchased one about a year ago to track the cost of many of our electric appliances.

I never bake in my Zojirushi, but bake in my Sharp Convection/Microwave oven, which requires NO pre-heating and I can bake one loaf in 20-minutes and two loaves in 25-minutes.

Out of curiosity, I'll make a loaf of Onion Dill Bread in the Zo and attach the Kill-A-Watt Meter to track the amount of electricity used, and the cost. I'll post the findings later today.

The test is complete. The total cost was 2-cents. It used .35 KWH.

I can find Semolina flour at some local middle eastern grocery stores for a lot less than Red Mill brand. For the cost of bread flour and yeast:Sam's Club. Find a friend to give the second pound of yeast to. And for the 25 lb bag of flour: One in the flour canister and three filled gallon ziplock bags (which I reuse for flour five to seven times.) Some of you have seen my kitchen windows: They make for a cold kitchen in winter, so I really like the bread machine knead & heat cycles. It gives a far better rise than the room temperatures we get with a woodstove. I have the Cuisinart Convection Bread Machine (Sam's club last year). It has a dough option as well as an artisan dough option that is just extraordinary good. Now have you tried a Silpat/Exopat for bread baking (and a baking pizza stone?)

I made a double batch because there was enough tangzhong to do so and because I wanted to test how the bread 'kept'. Also, I cut back on the amt. of sugar when I made the bread. The tangzhong definitely helps in keeping the bread fresh longer. Mine is still relatively soft over 24 hrs. after baking which impresses me enough to try adapting this technique to some of my other bread recipes. My loaves had a very nice crispy crust fresh out of the oven. Note that I'm baking in a toaster oven and the top of the loaves were very close to the top of the oven. Maybe it's just me (or the flour I used--Pillsbury Bread flour, but I thought the bread was lacking a bit in flavor. OR, since the recipe doesn't call for any salt & I didn't add any, perhaps that's part of the problem...salt helps to rein in the action of yeast and I noticed that the dough was really spunky and rose quite fast. No doubt, retarding the rise would help a lot to develop flavor. Nice crumb but the bread has a little different 'mouth feel'. Kinda' weird but not necessarily disagreeable. Agree that it would make great rolls which is what I'll likely do with the recipe next time, along w/ a bit of salt & at least an overnight ferment in the refrigerator to help develop more flavor. Those Bagettes look yummy and easy to make. Thanks for the recipe. My DIL swears by her KA too. I ordered a machine and it should come today! But it was very inexpensive with mostly great reviews. What I like about it is that it matches the kitchen, and doesn't take up a lot of room. Link below. The biggest complaint is it's hard to read the panel because of the yellow background, but I keep my kitchen glasses sitting on the counter at all times. :) Natal, if you're reading this...the machine gives me three choices of crust color. Wouldn't that effect the texture of the bread if I chose a light or dark color? Also, I was looking at the bread mixes on King Arthurs, they have one that is a sugar/cinnamon bread. My big food question at the store is "will I eat it". Food thrown out is pure waste (unless the dog is hungry). For me a bread machine will probably never happen. Why? Bakery bread is available to me for $1-$3 a loaf depending on what I'm hungry for. Being single a loaf lasts me 1-3 weeks. A grainy "honey wheat" is one of my favorites and rye I eat for snack food. Most of my bread is toast because I have to keep it in the fridge or it molds. Last bread I made was squash bread. The vanilla and almonds I used were the most expensive items in it. One stupid squash plant has put out 30-40 summer squash and it is still going! I have to grate it into baggies and freeze it because I've given it to everyone and ate all I can eat. I love my bread pans but have to be in the mood to make bread. I often keep frozen store bought dough in the freezer because my real cost is driving to town to buy a loaf of bread. I can make homemade wine for about $1 a bottle! Hand squeeze the grapes and it is better quality then anything I've ever purchased. Even lazy way with store bought apple juice is inexpensive and very fine drinking. Hard to beat road kill for value! : ) lyra

wow, cost of power here is about 15"Â¢" per kwh... so a nickle for power in a bread machine and fresh & smells so good sounds appealing to me.

How much do the rest of the ingrediants cost to make a loaf bread? Any idea???
I'm not much of a cook but I'm sure I could find and follow directions...
My grocery store brand, for loafs of regular sliced bread are $1.09 each last I looked. And they surely don't last long for me.

Mikie, just wanted to add. I used to buy whole grain bread in a store, and it cost me 3-4$ a loaf, I am saving huge amount of money and have much more delicious
and cheaper bread. It is very easy to make, you just put in ingredients and go away, it will let you know when it's done.And I like a taste of the bread machine bread. I buy huge bag of whole grain wheat in Cash and Carry(restaurant supply store)- it is much cheaper than buying small bags in regular store. The regular(not whole grain) wheat is even cheaper.
Zojirushi is more expensive brand than others, but it does much more things than other BM - besides doing bread dough, cakes, it also makes very good meatloaf, even jam!
and house smells heavenly too!
