Lexmark Printer #2

Yes the Lexmark #1 is still working. Today I went to a just divorced moving sale (knew the gal). She had a Lexmark all in one type printer (faxes, copies, scans) NIB for $20. Ex had bought it for her last Christmas.

Now another question. I will "bank" the other printer just in case. Any way of saving the cartridges until I need them? Thanks, Kathy

Yes and no. The best way is to keep them sealed in their original foil-plastic packaging and to keep them in a temperate climate -- not too hot, not too cold. But they will "expire". You can use them a little longer if you don't mind a slight color shift or having to reprint some pages because the ink is past its best-by date.

I'd check to see if the carts are compatible. You might be able to use them in the new machine.

Download the latest, greatest driver for your printer from Lexmark's website. Go into control panel, then Add/Remove Programs, and uninstall anything related to Lexmark. Unplug the printer and reboot the computer. Once the computer is back up run the driver software and follow the instructions. Don't plug the printer back in until instructed to do so.

Well some printers simply stop when even one cartridge is empty while others will keep going till the ink fades. You may have a point there regarding testing without buying a cartridge, I am unsure. But I would surely try, in the case of the Lexmark listed above the link indicates a poor track record. Lexmarks do not seem to be the good printer they were a few years ago. There is a real possibility the jets will clog if a printer is not used on a reasonably regular basis, even a small print job is good enough. We have a Lexmark X4250 and at times the cartridge carrier refuses to return to the parked position needing me to poke my thumb in there sharply to seat the thing. The colour quit of a year ago but most of my wife's needs are black and white. If she needs colour my HP will take care of it.

OK Sapphires you have answered my questions. Now I will suggest something absolutely stupid. I suspect your printer is one of many models Lexmark built that has a peculiarity. Next time you print a photo remove your internet connection cable and the job will/should complete. There, I told you the cure was stupid. Lexmark built about 50 or more different models with this defect. Then they made it difficult to find the answer on their web site. The article will not be there now probably as these are older printers now. I could not find your model on their site, nor mine. Ours did the same trick and it was always when printing photos and always around 45 to 50% finished when the printer stalled. All that expensive ink wasted does not make for a happy customer.
