here's an odd twist: shop the gourmet grocer

| The chain grocery nearby sold and went upscale. But I've discovered a nice perk - day old, excellent quality produce! Yesterday, 2# of green beans 89 cents, mushrooms 69 cents - both barely marred. Today a cored pineapple for 89 cents (regularly 4.99) and 7 bunches of green onions for 79 cents. (I slow roasted those with potatoes, yum.)
The grocer is on my 5 minute walk to and from the Y. Easy enough to stop and peek. I had mixed feelings when they moved in, but I'm liking this aspect. What isn't pretty enough for their shelves is fine for my table! Such a deal!
I like to cook and eat pretty much anything, so I am fine with serendipity on the fruits and veggies. I'm hoping combining that stop with shopping sales for my meats/fish will get my grocery budget back under control. |

| What a deal! I live (way out) rural, don't get to town but maybe once a week, and there isn't anything like that within an hours drive. Living within walking distance of some things, sure does have its perks. Sue |

| How nice that you have something like that AND that you are able to walk there... no such luck here. |

| Hee hee, another score. I am absolutely giddy. 6-pack o limes, 69 cents 2 packs of fresh herbs, 49 cents (oregano and basil) 6-pack of mixed fruit, apples/pears, apples/oranges, 89 cents each 9 mini sweet peppers, 99 cents (regularly 4.99 - yeah, right) 3 yellow squash, 69 cents. That squash, pepper, onion, herb mix is smelling pretty good. Yum. This is a hoot! Wonder how long it can last. Hopefully someone else out there is near an upscale grocer joint and has similar luck. |
