I saved money this week

While one vacation, I went shopping and found some terrific deals at Parisian which has been sold, and in Charleston SC at the Citadel Mall, they are liquidating everything, except maybe perfume and makeup. My husband found a pair of Allen Edmonds shoes which he has been looking for for over a year, no lie. He found them $100 less than what he was preparing himself to pay...and I had to talk him into buying them! I found myself a pair of Crocs, my alltime favorite shoe for 1/2 price....I've never seen them discounted. I bought a sweet little fleece overall/sleeper thing with a knit shirt for a grandchild expected in March for 75% off, and some pants for myself at 50% off, plus another 15% off when I bought 3 pair. Then I went to a very fancy children's store on Daniel Island and found a cute pair of Xmas jammies for my granddaughter for next year at 75% off, and then a cute little dress for the March baby at 1/2 off. The best was at Talbot's Kids, though. I saw a skirt for my GD before Christmas that I wanted to complete an outfit with a beautiful sweater I had bought her. Before Xmas it was $58; I bought it Monday for $15...so finally her outfit is complete! I also went to Bob Ellis' shoe store in Charleston. They were having a huge sale...saw Prada for half-off...they stayed at the store!

Sounds like you're saving yourself a bundle, while spending a fortune.

Actually, we had budgeted what we felt we could spend on this trip, and we came home underbudget. None of these was an impulse purchase. I pride myself on knowing the retail cost of most things (which I NEVER pay), and only when we can get a really good deal do we spend. Sometimes we go without what we want for months, like my husband who had put off buying those shoes for nearly a year, and when we see a great price, we buy...IF we have the money. None of this stuff was charged. But like the great deals offered on Prada, Ferragamo, etc. at the shoe store...sorry, that's out of our league. I DO own 3 pairs of Ferragamo shoes which I bought 3 years ago at Value City, for $20 a pair. I like to hunt for bargains, but I'm almost never an impulse shopper.

Not for everyone, but we've been getting used Allen Edmonds off eBay and at a second hand store for years. DH's favorites are a vintage alligator - gorgeous. $30. Ridiculous price, not even made any more. He even found AE patent leather slippers for his (also vintage) tux. $20. They are outstanding shoes. Made here in Wisconsin and sold as the "shoes of Presidents" - apparently all have worn them. But seems a lot of retired guys in Florida realize they don't need them anymore and put them up on eBay.

celticmoon...Thanks, we'll check eBay for Allen Edmonds. So many of the men's and women's shoe brands are now made overseas, and in doing so, many of them are now of poor quality. My husband loves those new AE shoes. He's been looking for a long time for this particular pair, and even at the outlet mall they were lots more than he paid. Men's shoes are expensive! I guess I average him out...I have little feet, and I can usually get new shoes at a fraction of their original price. myfask...do check Parisian. I understand that the ones that will reopen as Belks don't have quite the bargains of the ones that have been outright sold. Be quick, though. The clerk at the Charleston store said they were closing for good at the end of January. And yes, Daniel Island is gorgeous. It's a beautifully planned community with mixed use housing for everyone from section 8 to millionaires. My son and his wife are lucky enough to live there, and my DIL has an office on the island.
