How are you spending the holidays?

If you celebrate Christmas what are you doing different this year? Are you still dragging out the old ornaments etc?

I put up one small 6' tree in the den with fun ornaments and another one in my little living room with all beaded ornaments I made. I do it for me.
I only put up my snowmen this year. Mostly my S'More's guys that I collect. I have boxes of old ornaments that no one seems to want. The family is dwindling down.
I miss the old days of a bunch of family around but that is not to be anymore.

RE: How are you spending the holidays?

When we moved to the smaller house, I gave my dining set and china set to my eldest daughter. She didn't catch on for several months. I no longer have a tree and I don't miss it a bit. I just put out the easy stuff that I really like, which for me is mostly stuffed animals. We do more outside than we used to do because we like our neighbors better and I think that lights are really a Christmas card to the neighborhood. I have a party early in the season for the neighbors and then with my hostessing chores behind me, and the house all cleaned up, I settle in to do whatever I want to. this year I am anxiously awaiting the news of the sex of my first grandchild - then I will be off like lightening to the stores. I love to attend Christmas programs and I don't care whose church it is at. I go to my own on Christmas Eve of course, but I feel free to attend whatever else sounds good to me. I no longer care what I get for Christmas and I no longer try for the perfect gift for others - it can't be done. I love the crowds at the mall because I finished my shopping a long time ago and now I just like to people watch. My husband makes the Christmas cookies - I am just responsible for the aebleskivers on Christmas morning. I've got it good and I do realize how blessed I am.

We'll be at home Christmas Eve and my 2 sons and daughter will be here along with our 2 grandchildren. I cook the traditional Italian fish dinner which we all enjoy. Christmas Day is church with my husband and then to visit my sister who will be in the hospital. Last week we visited the cemeteries to put flowers on various relative's graves. All the above are traditions I like to keep.

Devorah
nice of you to call your outside deco a Christmas card to the neighborhood. I feel the same way. Of course I like to get some presents under the tree but like you, I enjoy seeing all the happy shoppers and the great music progrms around town.

RE: How are you spending the holidays?

The lasy few years I left my decorations up way too long, like the end of January, mainly because I felt too tired and depressed to take everything down. This year I am doing only three things: a wreath for the door, a nativity display on a small table, and a pre-lit Christmas tree with some of my favorite ornaments. It will be the four of us, a few gifts, church on Christmas Sunday. That's it .

Jannie, I like your way of keeping Christmas this year. Simple is more.
