| ... it sure doesn't seem so around here!
Don't tell me that you all have nothing interesting to say?
Or are you just getting in practice for the long sleep in the box, six feet under?
Oh, sorry - some of you are planning to be burned up.
Not over anything you read here, or on other THS forums, I hope.
Have a great weekend - ain't it great that every day is weekend for retirees?
You don't have to be physically/mentally well enough to go to work.
All you have to do to qualify for the pension is ...
... stay alive!

| After 11 years of retirement and a lot of traveling we both have pretty much full time jobs at least for the tourist season. We are called docents but thats just a fancy name for historian at a small museum. We enjoy it greatly and we get to meet people from all over the world. April through October really doesn't seem too long now. |

| gandle, "Docent", huh? That's a twenty dollar word that means "wise one", doesn't it? Or, rather, "teacher", I think. I'm pleased that you're enjoying your summer activities. People are an interesting lot, aren't they? ole joyful |

| We travel and when we can, include the Historic places.. with a Docent! Once I learned how to pronounce it, I quickly appreciated your knowledge and patience with taking the 'group' around and answering the sometimes-already-answered questions. Do you mind terribly us who miss the start, and linger close for your words of wisdom? |

| Well, DH and I went South in August to celebrate my 50th high school reunion. It rained 8 of the 10 days that we were there and we returned home with a virus that lasted for another two or three weeks. We are still thanking the good one up above that we got back home ahead of Katrina! If we had not left when we did, we would have been right in the middle of it! So, while things did not work our the way we would have liked, we still have a lot for which to be thankful! Bettye |

Hi ole and others, enjoy the character in you. Haven't been on this forum before. I go by jan, I have two grown DDs a GS and a GD and a DSL. However, I am still lively enough to have my own things going on without their help - hope that is the case until I meet my Maker. No, I don't like all weekends. I enjoy work, even when I am not getting paid or paid very little. DH and I traveled a lot before retiring, saw the places we really wanted to see: States, 13 European countries, B.C., S. Africa, Mexico, Porta Rica, Costa Rica, St. Johs, St. Thomas, Canada, etc. - some we even visited more than once. He worked hard for our income. I worked hard as a volunteer many of those years, to give back to the community that supported us. After the DDs left home,I have been employed as a nurse, chaplain and now as an artist and art instructor. DH is retired, in pain a lot of the time, just had surgery, but still rides his cycle and loves it. He is headed to Chicago tomorrow to visit buddies of his. I will be painting, getting ready for an art exhibit. I also will be shopping for things to fill Christmas stockings, 8 of the 98 we sewed. I was in charge of the project at our church to make them for Katrina's children evacuees. I used to volunteer for many service organizations, but now focus on our church and my art. Oh, and BTW, I will be teaching oil painting in FL this winter while we are there. Yes, we still travel, but usually to the same places every year for the winter: Sanibel, Scottsdale, Cancun and Door Co. WI every fall with a few other places thrown in the mix. To answer your question, yes, I am getting ready for the fire. I have selected how, where and by whom, but need to choose the scripture and music. I keep meaning to call the cemetary and see how many urns (why not the whole family?) can be "planted" in one plot. Yes, I am a gardener too. I do agree tho, on days when one feels "less than" it is nice to be able to stay home. jan |

| Mamatoad, People talk about being "blown away" by some rather novel idea, music, etc. Sure glad you didn't have the real thing visited on you! One feels sad for the poor folks who lacked the equipment needed to evacuate. One also feels deeply concerned for the millions of victims of the earthquake in Pakistan, who lost home, clothing, equipment, and everything. With very low freezing temperatures, wind-driven snow, etc. soon to arrive. MarieND, I too hope that your husband is doing well. Good wishes to everyone. ole joyful |

I'm just a poor poster but I do enjoy this forum and wish more people would post. I'll try harder. I'm enjoying my retirement very much but it still hasn't quite sunk in that I don't have to go to work at 7pm every sat and sun as I did for the past 6 yrs. I was never able to go to church but now I'm going to Sunday School and the works. It's nice. I wish I could relax more but there are things that have to be done. why I don't know. LOL. I walk 5 miles a day plus the household chores, computer time, and some scrapbooking. My arthritis is bad but I'm ok as long as I'm on my feet. My husband altho 4 yrs younger than me has a lot of medical problems that keep him from being able to travel much so we stay close to home. Life is as good as it can be right now and I'm so thankful I don't have to work. Joyfulguy, you are a prize and I enjoy your humor! |

| Joyful, You are great at getting people started! I retired 3/05 after 32 1/2 years working at a university. I immediately volunteered at my grandson's school two days a week, took piano lessons, yoga, and gardened more. Now, I go dancing with friends, visit more of my friends, am involved more at our church, have upholsterd my kitchen chairs, painted the kitchen and livingroom, regularly pick up my grandson from school, etc., etc., etc. In October, myself and two of my sisters plan to go north-east to look at the changing of tree leaves. There is so much to do when retired that "I keep running out of time, and am late to things," which I never was when I worked! In the future, I hope to volunteer at a nearby V.A. because I admire our servicemen and women so -- God bless them! Wishing you all many grand years of retirement. |

| Hi Everyone! I am new here-just found this part of the website yesterday...I but love listening (or should I say reading) to you all! Joyful you are a character...love reading your emails. I am newly retired with my husband. We live in Pahrump, Nevada. Recently moved here....getting used to being in a new place where everything is new to us. We are meeting new friends,etc...and yes, it can be very interesting. We are thinking of buying an RV and doing some traveling around the country. I am not sure if I can handle the 24/7 being in a RV alone with the hubby. I like my space...it could be a very short trip. We'll see what happens though. Anyway..I just wanted to pop in and say hello! Beca |

| Beca, This is a repeat of my addition to another thread - I think the one about continuous RVing. If you get one - maybe a heavy-duty trailer hitch ... ... then get a travel trailer to drag along behind. For storage of all the junk, routinely. And as a retreat, when the Jews aren't getting along well with the Samaritans. Just a thought. I figure that I should always try to be helpful - like they say, two heads are better than one (even if they are cabbage). Hope you enjoy your weekend. ole joyful |
