I got to retire

This is only my second day since i have retire.

I worked at the univesty of mo. and they had a buget cut here and layed off some people and they did a early retirment and i got to retire with full benifits. I had been working for the universty for 33 years.and if you add your age and how long you have been there you can retire with full benifits. and mine was enough. And what is good about it is that my husband is on disabuilt and we went to get a

rv and go plces now and i think that we can do what we want to do we don't have any kids.We are going on a vacation next week and we are going to go to Minnesota and Wisconson.

Enjoy your retirement! We recently bought a small RV and will be taking our first trip (to Calif.) in it soon. I'm claustrophobic and I'm not sure that I will feel comfortable sleeping in it, but I'll give it a try. I hope you and your husband have a wonderful trip to Minnesota and Wisconsin. Bettye/AZ

Most maples are deciduous, meaning that they lose their leaves every winter and go dormant. Leaves regrow in spring. During their dormancy, they should not be fertilized or over-watered. I have a feeling you may be talking about one of the Japanese Maples (Acer palmatum or A. dissectum). If your maple started to bud out and then the leaves died off, it may be that they burned in the 80 deg. temps, or that it was too wet, or too cold.

Hello perrenialfan273, I think its great that you have interest in growing tropicals. Let me give you a little advise. Don't go crazy with buying a bunch of tropical fruits to start. They will take up more time in the cool months and you can end up with bug infestations, or diseases. Another thing, you mentioned growing cacao. From what I have heard it is a great plant but it may take years to get fruit from seed. I just don't want to see you get discouraged because you are waiting so long to get fruit. If you like guava, you could buy a grafted plant and get fruit in a relatively short amount of time. The key here is starting out with grafted plants that will fruit in a short amount of time, and also you should look up the fruits you are thinking of growing online. That way you can figure out what growing conditions you can provide. For begginners, I think the dwarf citrus are a good way to go. They do require strong light, but if you have a south facing window that should be good enough to get some fruit, also dwarf bananas that only get 4-5ft tall may be an option. The best advice is to start small. Buy maybe 2 new fruits this year and wait for another year and see how well you did keeping them happy. Then if all is well, you can add more the following year, this way you can find out what you can grow without feeling overwhelmed with a bunch of trees you paid good money for and now are ready to go into your compost pile.I am telling you what happened to me 5-6 years ago. I bought whatever I could get my hands on(and with the internet I had access to a lot!). I lost almost everything, and gave up trying to grow tropicals until about 2 years ago. Now, I have a good collection now and am currently adding 3-4 more tropicals. Its also nice to build slowly so you can have space for other things to grow. That's the serious drawback for us. Since we have to grow indoors during thr cold months, we run out of room a lot faster then our southern friends! Andrew

Judith, You have 13 months of sickness credits built up - but only get paid for 30 days? What kind of hurdles do you have to jump over to be "sick" - for a day or two? Or for a longer period? Often for a longer period you must have a doctor's message. Do you have a co-operative doctor? After all - you have some medical issues, don't you? If you have sick days' credit, that means that you get full pay for a day that you take off sick, doesn't it? By the way - try to get those credit card bills paid off FAST. Store cards usually charge 25 - 28%, and major cards 15 - 18%. If I loaned you $100.00 and required you to pay me $28. per year rent on the money, before one cent of the outstanding balance was retired, you'd call me a real stinker, wouldn't you? And - since most of the stuff we buy on card isn't deductible - you'd have to earn over $40.00 pre-tax in order to have the $28.00 after-tax to pay me the rent on the money. NOT A GOOD DEAL!!! Shrug your shoulders - give yourself a big smile when you look yourself in the mirror in the morning, wink, stick out your fist, thumb up, and tell yourself that this is to be a lovely day. katishook, the lady who I bought the tiles from.. said she went to Lowes or Home Depot and bought a piece of plywood and had them cut it round.. and she bought the base at one of the Pier One stores on sale.. just the base.. So if you are thinking of just getting a new piece of furniture this might be the way to go.. or even go to thrift store and find a nice piece which needs to be refinished .. maybe paint the base black and tile the top.. Heck , look who is telling you guys.. I didn't know the difference in tiles..LOL just wanted to share what the lady did with the tiles I got. Huggy

hi Mamatoad How was the trip tp california? We travel about four months during the winter mostly between Minnesota and Texas.We have a travel trailor (our fourth) and it is 31 foot long with a double slide so we have plenty of room now.we started out with a 19foot and a tent with 7 kids so now it is just the two of us we are fine with the trailor. Hope you enjoyed the trip and living in the trailor .

Illene, I'd suggest you sit down and do a good study of your retirement income and how you're going to spend it. Do you really want to blow it all on one quick trip across the country?

Sorry, but it's pretty obvious from your message that you weren't a professor with full tenure/benefits.

RV'ing can be a wonderful life, but it can also provide you with "a little too much closeness" that you might not like so soon after retiring after dealing with lots of different people.

Sam's Club stores has a big RV community. They have maps of places to pull in along the way and clubs. Check it out. It is nice to be alone but nicer to be among those with the same interests too.

We will be goning on another trip soon and money is no pooblem with us. we have saved our money. And we will be able to do what we want to do.

One of my closest friends and her husband retired 5 years ago. They bought a used RV and have traveled across the U.S. every year. They moved from Massachusetts to Alabama and they go back to MA every Christmas season and stay until mid-January. Their children all live in that area and they have a wonderful time making the trip each year and driving across the country in the summer. They are usually gone for 5 of 6 months. I loved their RV. It was really a home on the road with all of the conviences. They are loving it, while I am still working and won't get to retire for at least 10 months. My friends planned their retirement and investments very well. I wish I had done the same.

Yeah, and I worked with two people that ditched their respective spouses, took "early retirement", sold their houses, bought an RV, and were back in town in nine months looking for their old jobs back, divorcing and royally pissed off at one another.

You need to have 'own space"

Ilene, that sounds wonderful to me......I say go for it.....I can tell you that not everyone has trouble spending that much close time with their husbands. I have several friends that are doing it and having a bblast.....We have talkied about it but don't know if we will....I love gardening and animals etc so we may just hang our hats in one area but I do think it would be fun. I am positive I wouldn't have trouble spending 24/7 with my mate, in fact I can't wait....
