Tired of Retirement?

Anyone miss the daily grind of going to work? The long haul back and forth?
The petty office disputes and jealousies?
Just wondering. |

| Sometimes I miss my husband's daily grind, the long haul and the petty office desputes. I could come and go without questions. ((:o) |

I miss the excitement of solving everyone's problems. For some reason it was always easy for me to spot an error on a spread sheet etc. I relly am glad to be out of the office politics but do miss having a place to wear all my clothes. |

I have been retired for eight years and I don't miss work at all.....I was a nurse for forty years and I quit because I hated the changes in patient care when medicine became governed by HMO's and CEO's. I have lots of hobbies and stay busy. |

| I taught school for 28 years and there are times that I DO miss the rapport with the kids. The other stuff? Naw! LOL |

| The only thing I miss about retirement is my friends. We do keep in touch through phone calls and emails but I don't get to see some of them that often. I don't miss the job at all! I've been retired for four years and I work harder now than I ever did. lol My job required wearing a uniform (glad to get rid of that)and could be very stressful at times. I retired with over 20 yrs. service and glad to be DONE! ;) Now I have more time to be with my grandchildren and share things with them as well as my children. Have renewed friendships with some friends I haven't had a chance to be with in a long time. I love to garden and I spend a lot of time outside!! Hubby and I live on a farm so there's always something new and exciting to do here. Dancey |

| No, I really don't miss it that much. I liked my job but hated the long drive back and forth to work. I've always done a lot of volunteer work in the community and I've eliminated some of that. Need to start doing more! I miss that more than my job. |

| I retired in January 2003. I don't miss working at all. In fact, I occasionally dream that I am still at work and not feeling happy, and then I realize in the dream that I am retired, and I can go home and never go back. It's such a relief. |

| Oh it is such a 'grand relief'. ;) My job was fairly stressful. Dancey |

| I don't miss working at all, but I sure do miss getting dressed up every day. It's been so long that I can't even walk in heels anymore. Just jeans, sweats, and clogs. |

| Diane, I know just what you mean. I worked with an older gal years ago who said the only reason she was working was to wear out her clothes!! I even look funny now when I put on make-up lol |

I don't miss the job, but I miss what I was doing when I was working. I love to teach and I miss that part of it. I don't miss having to get up at a certain time, go to bed at a certain time, worry about deadlines etc. I am thinking lately that I really need to keep up my certification so that if I ever decide I want to go back to work or have to go back, I can. One never knows for sure what the future holds for us. Lu |

Lulie, that sounds like a good idea. Keep it up. It will give you something to do too. you might just fill a need someday. |

| Hi again, all, I prefer it to ... ... the alternative: I prefer to be above the grass to being beneath it. Funny, isn't it: these Christians tell what a great place Heaven is ,,, ... but I've met scarcely any in any hurry to get there. There's one major way to get there - called suicide. And if one should choose that route ... ... many denominations say that such a person ain't gonna get there. Who said that hoomans was reasonable? By the way - I was a clergyperson for a number of years (I say "clergyperson" because we have many female clergy in our denomination: they add sugar and spice and many things nice). ole joyful |

| Not tired yet - only been about a year or so, and it has gone fast. I wore scrubs, when I gave my notice, I cut the colorful, cute tops up into large squares, and made a quilt out of them, as we were going to change our uniform look soon (after I was to have been gone) and I named the quilt "scrubbed"! I was pretty much parttime that last year I worked (nurse) and gave away alot of shifts to younger coworkers deep in debt, so my husband says he thought I was already pretty much retired that last year anyway! (I was, mentally). Life is so interesting - a garden to plant, books to read, new friends and activities in the clubs we're in, quilting, napping, these years are what the last 40 years or so were preparing us for! Stay healthy!! |

| Jannie, the Kitchen Table is a nice place to visit and hang out and lots to talk about. they even have get-to-gethers. what kind of retirement are you experiencing? Are you by yourself? is family around? Do you have any hobbies? It is like a long vacation and can take time to get in a routine. Welcome to the world of not knowing how you ever had time to do anything before haha |
RE: Tired of Retirement? Not at all
| | |
| No, don't miss work. Worked in the same place for 34 years. The last 15 were not fun. Top loaded with management, constant lay offs - which also meant the loss of friends, always a new program of the week, more work, less pay, less benefits, stress and more stress due to less employees but more work. I hung in there for the retirement benefits and 401K. If I had to work again, never for a corporation. A small company or a job without all that stress. |
RE: Tired of Retirement?
| | |
| Nope....I don't miss work at all. If I could have just done my job without all the stress, intrigues and aggravation maybe I would have. But it's been 10 yrs. now and I'm fully acclimated to my retirement. Sometimes I have dreams (nightmares?) about work and am so relieved when I wake up. Whew! LOL |
