Starting to think of that second home in SC

Since my husband lost his job two years ago(way before planned retirement) and the last of our four children is still in school- we are at least starting to dream again of moving south.
I am more realistic now due to financial changes- but still think we could somehow swing something in 3 years when our last child is out of college.
We want to enjoy it a little now and we were thinking if we could start out with a manufactured home and if we didn't like it- we could upgrade if sold our major home someday.
Anybody have recommendations for manufactured home sites in South Carolina? We like the Myrtle Beach or Aiken area?

| instead of a manufactured house, perhaps you might consider buying a house that is easily rented thereby preserving you ability to live in the community you desire with little out of pocket expense now. Is there a university town in SC that you like? Buy a house in close proximity and rent it to students. In 3 years you could decide if you really want to live there but at today's prices, or if you want to keep it for income, or if you want to sell and buy something else. OF course that would mean you couldn't use it in the meantime and it might mean you would have to live there for 2 years because of tax considerations, but I think it is a way to relieve your mind about spiraling costs. |
