Comfortable Mattress

My husband and I both have back problems from time to time and will be buying a new mattress soon. Can anyone recommend a good, comfortable, yet firm mattress that maybe can help with the back problems? We have a king size bed, yet he is always on my side right next to me. We think that maybe his weight which causes the mattress to dip next to me, could be straining my back. We feel that maybe we need something more firm so that this problem could be solved without compromising us sleeping close to each other.

Have you thought of putting a board under the mattress?
I got one of those folding things you buy to put under the couch cushions to firm them up. I put it under a comforter on the bed and then a sheet etc over it. It helped a lot. What really helped in getting a good nights sleep was the Neck Pillow I got last week at Walmart for $5.00. It was on the aisle where they have the Seen on Tv things. It is a thick half ring with a removeable washable cover. I can put that around my neck and sleep almost anywhere now.

If you're going to buy a new mattress, don't skimp on the quality. I have a bad back & I have a very firm mattress with a pillow top. Before this one I had an extremely firm mattress without the pillow top & it nearly killed me.

Also make sure you turn your mattress frequently.

Timsmil, I'm about to get an AU Furniture sleeper sofa for my small guestroom/sitting room. They've got an unusual structure that means no 'bar' in your back. I've heard only good things from people who own them. You can search on their site (below) for a store near you where they're available. Best of all, for my purposes, they are very short front-to-back when they've open. (Like I said, my guest room is *small*.) A typical sleeper is 90-100', within which you only get a 72' long mattress (even in Queen sizes). The AU sleepers are only 83' deep, and within that you get an 80' long mattress, even on the Full & Twin sizes. The long mattress is great for grown-up visitors. The AU Furniture sleepers do cost more than competitors -- the Full size is about $2000 in microfiber, more in leather (under American Leather brand). The Crate & Barrel 'Nuevo' sofa is made by AU Furniture and has the same mechanism and virtues. It's bulkier, overall. Hope this helps! Here is a link that might be useful: AU Furniture website

Bedroom / Bed Mattress - Simple foam is great I think Need help

We just bought one of those expensive foam mattresses. It does have the memory foam on the top and fused to the bottom layer of foam. We have a full size and it was on sale for $549. Free shipping. Thing came all rolled up and stuffed in a box and it was amazing to see it undo itself and settle down. We love it. We also saw them in box at Walmart. Not sure of the quality. There was a sample piece to look at. Was in the $200. price range. WE have had ours for a couple of weeks or so and every night it is a pleasure to get in bed. We are sleeping so much better. Some of the aches and pains are getting better. There is good support and yet it gives to accommodate hips and shoulders. The cover is just a heavy weight fabric with a LONG zipper on one side. I did buy a nice thick cotton mattress pad and that would really be all you needed for a cover. I bought the deep model, our mattress is 8 inch thick. The deeper model mattress pad, About $20.00 pulls under nicely with the elastic so it stays put. I was afraid it would slip around and it does not. "Truth" in advertising

I saw a documentary on truth in advertising Years ago and the advertisers have to tell the truth and the government does enforce it. If a company is advertising chocolate syrup and they show a sundae covered with the syrup, the syrup has to be real, the other ingredients don't have to be. They can use words that can mislead consumers. An example of how smart the companies are is that they will put Nature on herbs and other products and the consumer actually thinks/sees "natural". Kelloggs is being investigated or was for advertising blue berries in their products when there are none. There are purple clumps of sugar in one form or another, that's it. I don't know how that turned out.

Thanks for the suggestions. We will be off to shop for a mattress soon. Wish us luck! I will retire in just a few short days, and then I can enjoy sleeping as late as I want on a wonderfully, comfortable mattress and hopefully, neither of us will have to get up with a backache. :))))

I like my bed. It is a kingsized waterbed frame and we put a box spring on it with a king sized mattress on top. It is nice and firm and I don't wake up at night with a jiggelie bed when my husband gets up and down during the night. Also it is easy to get in and out of because it is high. I use a king sized bedspread and added a dust ruffle. Makes it look nice and hides the drawers underneath where I keep my sheets, etc.

I tried them one time. I did not like them. Some people do.
We have a Tempurpedic adjustable bed. We like it.
