What Did You Do Today???

Since this board has been slow lately, I thought it would be interesting to know how others are spending their time now that they're retired. Will you please join me in a little daily post? I'd love to know how you spend your time!
We've had three days of chilly, rainy weather. Very unusual for sunny Arizona! After doing housework and laundry this morning, I took advantage of the afternoon sunshine and worked in the yard. Pulled weeds, planted flowers, and planned my garden while my husband worked in the shop, making a new corner bookcase for the office/guest room.We took time out to drink coffee while the hummingbirds enjoyed their freshly filled feeders. We could see snow on the Catalina Mountains ( a distance of about 30 miles from our home). What a beautiful sight!
Tonight, I will read John Grisham's book "The King of Torts"
Ahhh, I love the simple life..
So how was your day???? |

| I read, garden, play video games and work on the PC. I have a new pc, so I have to learn the new software for burning CDs and working with photos. I love nature walks, but theres not many places to walk around my home. |

I spend at least part of my day daydreaming about retirement. We live in west Michigan and we are still having winter here. We have 4 years 4 months and some days before we can hope to retire, but our goal is to retire early and to live fulltime in a motorhome so that we don't have to endure another northern winter. | The same thing I do every day, go to work. I am still working even though I had hoped to retire last October and then last December, and then March 31 and now I am hoping for June 30th. The June 30 date seems promising at this point. I didn't plan well for retirement and depended on selling a piece of property that I had always been told would be sold right away when put on the market. Things that could go wrong did go wrong. My advice to people who haven't reached retirement age is to plan and plan and plan and be sure to have more money than you think you will need. Judith |

Judith, I hope your June 30th retirement date will become a reality! I know you've waited a long time and had many disappointments. We've had some ups and downs with skyrocketing health insurance costs and some stock market losses. We're managing, but haven't been able to travel as often as we had hoped to do. Luckily, we enjoy each other's company and we are happy with the simple things in life. So, life really is okay! We planted bushes and flowers in the front yard today and bought vegetable plants (more! ) for the garden. Our water bill will zoom up, probably tripling the normal amount, but those fresh, organic vegetables are sooo good! |

| Thank you, Mamatoad, for adding some life here. I've been wondering whether some folks around here are practising for the long sleep when we get put into that big box. Slept at my old (step-) uncle's place, who died three weeks ago, to forestall vandalism. Going back there right away. I spent a couple of months with him after his wife died in mid-winter two years ago, as he, in late 80s, with bad leg, back and hip (had 3 replacements) was keeping cattle and I didn't want to hear of him having expired in a snowbank, with no one knowing of his problem. Came home, did some shopping, checked mail, played computer games (online) and sent some messages. Talked to son on the phone. Yesterday prepared some tax returns for low-income housebound seniors, today made appointment to do another. Checking what needs to be done to my old car (major engine repair in prospect) to get it mobile - don't like driving van, for it eats too much gas. After midnight, a friend who often gets depressed called, just after a discussion with her son, whose wife and she don't get on very well. When she gets depressed, her voice changes and she's entirely different. And one can't be of much help to tell them to just hang on - that tomorrow or the next day she'll be back to normal again. Good wishes to all for a happy, healthy, prosperous retirement. Be helpful when you can - there are many lonely, hurting people in the world. Even a smile can brighten someone's day. joyful guy/Ed |

Or what am I gonna do today? After I eat lunch today I'm gonna get on my motorcycle and DH on his and we're gonna go for a ride. Just learned to ride. Have a permit and starting June 21, 2 of my Grandson's and myself are taking the course to get our Motorcycle Licence. Never to late in life to learn anything. |

| Put in an order for some penny stocks of a gold mine (that no longer seeks gold, but is developing a large deposit of rather rare material that is often added to certain types of cement to provide it with a certain desirable quality). Spent an hour with a bunch of older men (I call it the "old farts club") that meets for coffee and chat weekly at a church that I attended as a child - where I sang in the choir as a soprano before my voice changed. Federal election coming up - spent most of the afternoon attaching lawn sign posters to wooden stakes for one local candidate, a fine woman. Shopped for cocoa: surprised to find that I can find chocolate drink mix, in can or individual pouches in a box, some with small marshmallows included, etc. - but no plain old cocoa. What next! Now using computer at library, (two hour limit) as mine has too small storage and I think something's wrong in it - I can't access internet now. Will go 12 miles out to Uncle's place who died a while ago, protecting it from break-in. Have a great weekend, all. ole joyful |

| Joyful, did you look in the baking supply section of the market for the Cocoa? It isn't in the same section as the Cocoa Mix with marshmallows, at least not here in Arizona. I buy it at Trader Joes but use it so seldom that most of it is wasted. I remember hot chocolate on a cold morning when I was in high school. Those mixes just don't taste the same! Bettye/AZ |
