One way to go is through the New York Foundation for Senior Citizens.

The group’s Home Sharing program is an intergenerational roommate service that matches hosts (people with an extra bedroom in their home) with guests (those who need an affordable place to live).

That's a great idea. There are also in some communities cooperative organizations that provide services for elderly persons if they cannot do everything themselves, for example, shop for groceries, especially in winter when there is ice in the streets. Boston has such a group.

We have one in this area - a business called, "Seniors to (for?) Seniors", that recruits junior seniors (if you can wrap your head around that concept) to provide some chores and other assistance to enable senior seniors to continue in their own homes longer, at lower cost than were they to move to move an assisted living facility, retirement home, etc.
