Well, I celebrated my birthday yesterday - the eightyfirst -thankful I am healthy - not wealthy - and wise? that is a matter of opinion ;)
Spring is coming and I will be playing in the dirt as soon as it dries up a little. Chickens are laying eggs again...
Life is good.

glad to hear about your update Trap7. so you're growing your plants outdoors in a sunny location huh? great! that's the way they should be!(except the nepenthes) are you going to post new pics? i surely hope so. the way you describe their progress, makes some of us want to see the plants' new growth. new pics of them perhaps? i started a smaller terrarium(just because i had spare plants) i planted them in a 1 gallon fish bowl i just had it sitting on top of my "drawing table" there for a while, and i had spare plants in my sunny windowsill.. and though.. hmm.. maybe i should give it another try.. then.. i planted a venus' flytrap(despite of the failing attempt on growing one in a bigger terrrarium) i planted one in the fish bowl along with a drosera adelae.. drosera capensis, 2 pinguicula sethos, and 1 pinguicula moranensis. i will see what will happen within days, i am giving them artificial lighting 16 hours per day. the 14 watt lightbulb is 4 inches above plants. so they get real bright light. i will post the pic of the terrarium in 2 weeks of improvement. Trap7, yous hould take pics of your plant's improvement. your description of progress was really intriguing. :P i'm 20, there's no shame for guys to love plants. if you knew me in real person you would be like "dude, you're freaking odd" talk to you later , take care.

Hmmmm, what am I doing attempting to do right now. Well, don't think I'm nuts but... I'm digging out about two feet of soil from a planter which is cut into a slope. This will be replaced with Sunshine mix No.4 and some compost. Over the years this has been my tomato bed (5 plants) this is the hottest spot in my yard so the tomatoes have the best chance here. Last year the tomatoes didn't grow that well so this year they went into a new raised bed out in the open. We had the most fantastic summer for tomatoes, they grew gangbusters but most years we need to plant them in the warmest spot in the garden (the tomato bed). Each year I have moved the soil back to front in the bed amended it with compost and steer manure but there comes a time when it needs overhauling. This bed has a fiberglas roof high enough that on the backside I hang netting for beans. When you don't have room to grow everything you want you have to get inventive. The old soil is being tossed on a bed where I pulled out the couch grass, it is also being amended with manure, wood ashes and compost, then tilled. I've planted my garlic in the front and I'll plant veggies in the rest of it next spring, hopefully the couch grass is history. The tomatoes will go back in their usual spot next year so when it stops raining I'll be out there moving more soil. It's pouring right now YEA!!! we needed this so badly the soil is parched even with all the watering I've done. I think we've had the driest summer on record or close to it. Annette

They are doing this in my community already. The local Elementary/Middle school has a monthly "Elder Luncheon", meals are prepared and served by students, there is scheduled entertainment, and Elders are encouraged to bring along artifacts and tell their stories. The students have as of now published two books "Through the Eyes of the Elders", telling some local families' history. The books are sold to raise money to publish more books and to continue the luncheons. I live in a small, rural town which is a real community. Relocated here twenty years ago, when dh (now passed) and I retired.

So great that your DH was able to get all of that done for you. Nothing worse than having to wait when you have a project in mind to do. I had little GD yesterday afternoon. She is such a character. Crawled under the bushes where the dogs lay to stay out of the sun when outside. Took her shovel and little dump truck and was hauling dirt from one side of the bush to the other where the dogs had scratched out a hole. Told me she "fixed the hole" for me. ;o) When I told her it was time to go home, she did her usual "NO, I don't wanna go" whine. So I asked her why. She said "Cause Mommy will make me eat dinner and go to BED!" LOL Told my DIL she sure has "cruel and unusual" punishment at her house. ;o) I ran into Michael's, Homegoods, and Ross on my way back from taking her home. Bought a beaded pumpkin for $4.99 at Homegoods, and some little Fall picks at Michaels and a really neat ceramic pumpkin at Ross for $5.99. All of the fake pumpkins were $9.99 and up at Michaels. Why are those things so high? I'm still sort of looking for three small ones that are the right shape to paint on. Might just wait for the "after" sales and get them for next year. You know I'm thinking about something else, but not sure how it would look. At the TS, they have lots of those plastic Halloween pumpkins cheap. Wondering about taking the handles off, and gluing them in a stack. Was thinking it would be good for outside, and could use them facing one way for Fall, then turned around for Halloween. Might even be able to wrap a garland of leaves around them or glue some leaves and such where they are glued together. Then make an arrangement of silk flowers or fall leaves to stick out of the top. Wouldn't it be great if I could find graduated sizes of the pumpkins? Hmmm. (Then I've got another "big" thing to have to store! Storage space around here is really tight--my shed with all the decorations is pretty full already with all the Christmas and other holiday things.) Why is it that I want to keep making more T2T type things? Just some crazy urge to be creative. LOL Well, I've rattled on enough--better get moving. Going to meet six or seven of the gals I used to work with. We call ourselves the "lunch bunch" because we try to meet for lunch every other month. LOL Weather here has cooled off some too and I am loving it. I'm wanting to go see what pretty plants Lowe's might have. Be nice to add a little Fall color here and there in the yard. I've been mostly helping my DS get moved into his new house. He was with me over a year after a divorce and VA operations.His household goods just arrived that have been in storage out West for over a year and what a mess it is. The original packing was terrible (packed via a military move). Heavy tackle boxes were put onto fragile glass items etc. He has to go thru each box and photo the damage etc in order to present a claim. out of 270 boxes and items we still have 200 to account for .At least I'm around to calm him down.....

What a mess your son is going through! I have been in the moving business a long time ago, and I know that militry moves sometimes are not carried out in the most careful manner; it has to do with the low bids that the Govt. accepts, and you get what you pay for - it's sad!

The driver called my son direct and said he could deliver the stuff the next day and didn't have to go thru the Military base. Finally he did go via the base and when he got here he told my DS to put away the Inventory list and he didn't have to check off the boxes and items. (that will take all day) No Way, My son has been thru too many moves to fall for that one. And many more bad things to tell but we are compiling a letter to attach to the "How was your move" sheet we got from the moving company two days ago.

Happy birthday from here, as well.

I just had one last Sunday - but I just passed the 75 mile post - enjoyed being that age for 366 days, though. Thankful that I don't think that I've had to take a pill for 30 years at least.

We often don't think to be thankful for our health while we have it.

Sorry that your son's had so much turmoil lately.

And to have your stuff all jumbled up and smashed is a real pain in the butt.

I hope that he can get the issues straightened out in the end, without too much hassle.

I try to keep in as good a shape as possible...I walk each and every day (unless some emergency comes up)...Yesterday, my husband got our smaller tractor stuck in the mud and I had to take the bigger one out and give him a pull. I had a fall earlier, but thought I had gotten over it. I found that I couldn't pull myself onto the step of the tractor with that leg...and that is the leg that is most convenient to use in such and endever...darn, sometimes getting old is depressing. I managed to get into the tractor, but it wasn't a pretty sight.

Don't suppose you got any pictures to share of your mounting the tractor?

Those steps are pretty high at the best of times, aren't they? What with the tractors getting bigger - the steps are getting higher, too.

One of the boxes of old photo fell from the shelf the other day so I decided to go ahead and paste them in scrapbooks. Not the fancy one s the gals are doing these days. (I wish I had started those a long time ago) but just using a glue stick to paste onto colorful scrapbook paper cut to fit those top loading plastic page protectors.
First I sorted by sons then by animals then by me (high school dance bids and club activities) and other family members. I didn't think I'd be able to do it with so many memories flying around but got down to business and am almost finished.
Not too many family members left to pass them on to but at least I got them out of boxes.
I've always taken photos of my pets and my decorated rooms and different places I've rented.
I didn't dwell too much on the past but just got busy and did it.
