Winter Rental ?

I was just reading the post about vacation rentals. It mentioned web sites on advertising. I would like to be able to read some of these, as my Mom (81) wants to go to the Phoenix area for a month or 2 starting February 1st. I'm retired myself, so I'd drive us down. I just don't know how to go about shopping for a rental for a month or two.

I hope somebody answers this post because we have a cedar cottage on 58 acres we would love to rent for a week or month and don't know where to research this! We are in a very remote area (100 miles west of Chicago) and think it could appeal to a family or even a group of guys that would love to rent a place for a few days/week during hunting season.

I'd start with Craigslist for the areas you're interested in - these have lists for both the landlord and the renter. You can usually also find local newspapers online, and contact them to place ads for your rentals. Any area that is a heavy tourist area will have chat boards and Chamber of Commerce websites with links to real estate and rental agents. If you type in "Phoenix vacation rentals" in Google, you're sure to find a lot of results.

How large is the space? If concrete is under the carpet, then all you'd need is to cover it with a large outdoor rug, or stain the concrete if you want a different look. If it's soil, then consider laying some patio stones and filling the gaps with either small stones or sand. Lowes/HD carry 20 x 20" patio stones that would fill the area easily. Can you trim back that pine tree limb or do you need the shade it provides? Trimming it back just beyond the top fence ledge will help reduce the mess from pine needles. I went to ask.com a while back and put several things in the search. I remember putting "low taxes", "safe", and I don't remember what else but The Villages Florida came up in the TOP 10 and so did this web page with all yalls letters. I read with interest and found Betty to be the one I liked to read posts the most from when THIS forum's letters link was clicked, but there were 2 of yall that I thought were extremely rude when all she was trying to do is share her love of where she lived. Even through yalls harshness, she remained courteous. If you had taken a little time out to do a search on The Villages Florida, you would have found the web page that you can order a DVD or video and SEE what she is talking about. Next time, in lieu of "bashing" or "questioning motives or wondering if her family "owns the place" , do a little research. Get your own FREE copy of a DVD or video of The Villages by clicking into their main web page. http://www.thevillages.com/ and after you see the DVD, you'll wonder why MORE letters of "The Villages" praise wasn't made by her and others. They seem to have everything there, and ANYONE you talk to that moved there can't say enough good about it. Shame on all who were less than kind to Betty for simply trying to explain to yall that she found a wonderful place to live. Shame on yall for questioning why her husband could go to a gym but be on oxygen...like that is your business...and it had NOTHING to do with her enthusiasm about the Villages she was TRYING to share with you people, and no, I don't know Betty nor have I ever even so much as spoken to her. I read every one of yalls posts and believe me, the one I'd like to meet in person would be Betty. Personalities DO shine through on line...both good AND bad. Betty seems like a wonderful person. Thanks Betty for your great posts and info on The Villages. I live in Texas and am not even old enough to live at a retirement community yet, but I will certainly visit The Villages January 2007 and I hope to meet Betty.... and for the rude ones on here, no, I don't work at The Villages or have family that own it either. I'm just a person that's educated enough to do a simple Google search or ask.com search in lieu of trying to question the motive or intent of an obviously kind and sweet lady like Betty seems to be. Greetings to those who would like to find a vacation rental, or rent their cottage/cabin/waterfront condo.

First, My experience: My husband and I started a cabin rental company in 2001 after we retired early and moved to the mountains from "da big city".

To find or rent a property in an area that might not be flush with this type of property, there is a website called
VRBO.com (Vacation Rentals By Owner.com) If you have a property and want to rent it out yourself, this is where you would advertise it. If this is the way you want to go, look at other vacation rental websites to see their rental agreements. Have a local person that youcan trust for cleaning and maintenance.

If your property is in an area with lots of vacation rentals then you may want to consider a property management company. They will do just about everything for you for a percentage of the rental fee.

If you are looking in a specific area for a vacation rental, contact the local chamber of commerce.

I agree with the writer who mentioned Craig's List. You can visit www.CraigsList.org and search under the Phoenix area. There is lots of information for you. If you like the mountains of the Carolinas, you can find more information about vacation rentals at the link below.

I would stay away from the Phoenix area.Prices are out of site with apts running about 1500 and above. Traffic is really bad. Very hard to get medical if needed.
I would try Yuma as there is less people and since there are so many seniors and so much to do it would be easier, but again apts are probably over 1000.
We have stayed there in the trailer and really like it. Medical is not bad.
Great flea market, and good shopping.
I won't even drive in the Phoenix area and I am Calif/Los Angeles freeway trained.
So much road rage.
