Craftsman GDO repair

I have just replaced the gears on my Craftsman GDO which were stripped. The repair inst. say to run the opener untill the sprocket completes a clockwise cycle. When the limit switch reaches the down or up contact the motor does not stop or reverse but contunues to run. Could it be a logic board problem? Does the door have to be connected?

no the door does not need to be connected. Did you make sure the RPM sensor (the rotating plastic bladed piece) is fully seated so the fins go through the sensor?
