Tips for adjusting door striker plates

Posted by stash-hdy (My Page) on

All of my exterior doors do not close tight enough against the weather stripping and also ensure that the door anti jimmying feature is set right. I realize that the striker plate can be moved toward the outside of the house. I put a dowel in the screw hole and then reposition it. I never get it the right distance. Any tips in determining what distance the plate needs to be moved? Do they make an adjustable striker plate?

Measure from the side of the door that contacts the weatherstripping to the flat edge of the latch.

Then use that measurement to mark where the front of the striker plate needs to be mounted from the leading edge of the weatherstripping.

I bend the lip on the inside of the striker plate.
