I have two homes on the Mississippi Gulf Coast with massive wind and flood damage after Katrina. The adjustor has totaled both roofs, and I'm getting estimates for two new shingled roofs, which is what I assume the insurance company is going to pay for. Some friends have recommended a metal roof, though, which I know is more expensive. Any thoughts about metal versus shingle roofs? Practicality? (future hurricanes) Cost? Aesthetics? (one home is over 100 years old Victorian and might look more authentic with metal roof?) Does anyone know of websites that would have lots of pix and info about roofing materials and types?
