does it light when the door opens?

also, are you using a regular bulb? i tried putting a CFL in my openers once and they won't screw in far enough to work. put in a incandescent it works fine.

if you are using a known good incandescent bulb, then i would think maybe the socket is bad or a broken wire.

No, it does not light at all. I spoke with a GDO guy and he says he has never seen one that does not work unless it was struck by lightening. What is odd is that I found a User Manual online and it references just two connections coming from the wall control (bell wire), one red and one white. There are four coming from my controller.

You have an older model that had 4 wires from the wall control. Try unplugging the unit and using a small screwdriver pull out of the center connection of the light socket. Sometimes this will work. The relay that controls your light may be bad.
