The electricians in installing some new wiring, made some holes 6"x6" holes in old plaster ceilings. What would be the best and easiest way of repairing them. I have 2 options: use drywall to cover them and screw it into the ceiling or would using a mesh and skim coat with ? joint compound work? Are there any other options? What else would you suggest? Thanks

Fill the hole with drywall. Tape and mud it.

What kind of plaster? Two coat plaster uses gypsum lath and the piece they cut out makes a perfect patch. Three coat plaster on wood lath is a little harder to repair, but a pieces of drywall makes a good base. Veneer plaster (one coat on blue board) is also easy to fix.
