Question about installing a deadbolt/door knob...

I was installing a new deadbolt and door knob and noticed that this part of the lock http://i.imgur.com/GOWNjKh.png (colored in red) is kind of loose because the screws don't really have a lot to screw into since the door is old and has had many locks installed and removed over the years. It doesn't really seem like a problem, and the lock functions fine, but I was wondering if there's anything I can use to like, fill the door in so the screws have something to hold on to.

Thanks!

There are any number of solutions.
Glue up some tooth picks, a golf tee, a shaved piece of a wood pencil and insert into the screw hole.
Form a block of wood and replace the damaged section, etc, etc, etc.

Didn't click the link but I'm sure there are many ways to stabilize the area where the new lock needs to be attached,

If you can't figure it out yourself then hire a professional.

Elmer's Carpenter's Wood Filler Extra Strength or something similar should work.

Hi. Drill out the holes to 3/8 in". Glue in 3/8 dowel.
