Roof Issues

Hello All. Thanks so much in advance for your help. This website and, more importantly, the users are amazing.

I had a question regarding my roof structure. I was in the attic earlier today and noticed a piece of wood at the very end of my roof had split in two pieces (see attached picture). From my initial research, I think this is a ridge board, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Is this a serious issue? What do you think I should do to fix this?

From what I can see I don't think the board is even structural. Appears to be a temporary brace that wasn't thrown away during clean up.

just push it back into place and nail it.
How long do you think it has been broke?

It appears to be part of the ridge board, which when originally milled remained intact and as the timber dried, so did the "pitch pocket" or sap line causing it to release.

The nailing surface is the top of the board and because the rafter intersection is to the side, there is no lose of structural integrity.
