I have been thinking about doing built-in bookcases for some time. Last night, I am looking up at a ceiling leak and realizing I would not have been aware of it if there were built-ins to the ceiling there, as planned. Years ago, I also had a contractor recommend not putting wood paneling around one of my windows, as leaks go undetected when that's done.

These are the types of finishing details I love in a home. Any experience with these types of problems? What are your thoughts on this?
