New siding.

I currently have vinyl siding on my home. I plan to replace. My question is this. I currently have vinyl over ceder lap siding that is not in great shape and it covers a fiberous type stuff. It's not osb, but I'm not sure what it is. My plan is to take the vinyl off and the lap siding to put house wrap up and then either vinyl or replace with a cement type lap siding. Will this work or should I put up osb siding on the house first?

RE: New siding.

It might be Celotex wood fiber sheathing sometimes called "beaver board" or "buffalo board". Sometimes it was uncoated and sometimes it had an asphalt coating.

If the structure is adequately laterally braced by other means you could cover the beaverboard with Tyvek or asphalt felt and add new siding.

Here is a link that might be useful: fiberboard sheathing
