Regardless of the area you're in I doubt you will find any roofer that will do the job for $1 sq ft. Remember also that regardless of the size fo the roof there is still travel/set up time, materials procurement, etc. that doesn't really change alot based on volume of materials.

I can't comment on what a reasonable price is in your area, but $1/sq ft is unrealistically low in my opinion.

Why cover the roof with a second layer of shingles if the roof that is there is OK?. If you have a localized problem then trace back the source and repair that area. I can't see the benefit in adding an overlay.

$1 sq ft, unbelievable. We apy here in this area, $30 sq ft., and thats 5 years ago. Now, the shingles have gone up close to 50%, etc.

I agree with the gu above, if you can, without causing too much damage, repoiar the general area, sometimes, blending your patched roof into the existing roof can cause a problem.

Thank you guys for your inputs. The reason why we decided to add another layer is because in other areas of the roof, shingles have been blown off and missing. maybe i'll have the roofer repair the areas where shingles have been blown off since the other areas look fine. thanks again.
