Applying Asphalt Coating to flat roof

I have a double dormer over my garage about 12' by 10'. It is almost flat, drops about 6" or so in the 10' run. It has roll asphalt roofing which has been coated twice in its 12 year life. These were done by the roofing company.

I am considering coating it myself and find Home Depot has a Karrak Roof Fibrated Asphalt Coating that looks to be the "right stuff".

My question is: is the coating, when applied with a heavy 7" Brush like applying thick paint, or more like tar? The can says it can be applied with a brush or roller at the rate of 3 to 4 gallons per 100 square feet.
