Asbestos

The usual question -- does this wall board, which lines the foundation walls in par of the basement of my 1929 house, look like it could contain asbestos? I know the only way to know for sure is to test, but any opinions on what material this appears to be? Thanks!

    Looks like CELOTEX.

Celotex and Homasote are made from reclaimed/recycled paper fibers. Asbestos would be more expensive to add to the mix. Highly unlikely to contain asbestos.

I'm planning to cover it with MDF beadboard, rather than remove it.

Call your local authorities and find out what is required for disposal. Call the municipal waste people first. Where I live, non-friable asbestos can be put at the curb for regular pick-up. You can remove it safely yourself if you educate yourself. If you put those two things together, you don't really have a problem even if it is asbestos.
