sears garage door opener stuck

I have a ten year old sears 1/2 hp. chain drive opener that keeps getting stuck in the open position chain gets very tight and I have to loosen chain adjuster to release tension on chain will work fine for a few days then lock-up again lights will flash and you can hear motor laboring for a few seconds when it locks up any help would be great!

It sounds like your door is opening too far and the trolley is jamming against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. If so, do this:

Close the door and then locate the 'up limit' control on the side of the motor unit. Turn this 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Should do it.
