Replacing Outside Window Sill-Need Help

I am in the process of replacing an exterior window sill that is badly rotted. My question is the depth of the sill is 2" and a 2"x4" is a little less than 2". What would be the best way of dealing with this? Possibly get a 1"x4" and glue the two together? I have to put a 15 degree slant on the sill so should the thinner wood be placed on the top or the bottom of the sill? Thanks

Or purchase a larger piece of wood and have it milled to size if you cannot do the work.

But avoid a 4x4 if it contains pith, as many do.

Or buy a premade window sill and cut to length. Lumber yards(not home improvement stores) have them.

    +1 on handymac - lumberyards would carry 1 3/4" x 7" for a 2x4 wall and 1 3/4" x 9' for 2x6 walls and they are most generally made of Ponderosa Pine.
