| I am working on a stone fireplace that is about 30 years old. It has never been cleaned. I can tell that the flat stones have some pink and gold streaks running thru them. It is very pretty rock. However, the dirt and soot (wood burning) covers up 75% of the pretty rock especially right around the firebox opening. I was going to use TSP to wash it down and rinse with water. then, apply a stone enhancer/sealer - like the product that is used for stone tiles.
Is there a better way to do this? |

| Bored and don't have a clue,but I googled it and found this: |
Here is a link that might be useful: cleaning soot from stone
|
| Just do not use a steel wire brush. Steel metal will smear on the stone and then slowly cause rust to appear. Brass or plastic brushes. |
