Change grout color?

Posted by brusso (My Page) on

I have a project where the tile is fine but the grout needs to be changed to a lighter color. I could dig out all the grout and re-grout but was wondering if there is a way to change the color of the existing grout. This is on a kitchen backsplash and the tile has been in place for about 5 years already.

It's called grout colorant :)

Here is a link that might be useful: Grout Colorant

RE: Change grout color?

I was told by a store sales person that Grout Colorant was only temporary and would wash off like shoe polish. It was mentioned that people selling their houses used this to freshen up grout temporarily. I do not have personal experience with Grout Colorant.

I used Kitchen/Bath Semi-Gloss paint on bathroom floor tile grout and it worked great, lasted several years.

If you do not want a shine, use a low luster paint.

I took a tile to Home Depot and they used their machine to mix paint to the exact color of area chosen on the tile.
