outdoor hose bib shuts itself off

Never seen anything like this. Just installed a simple replacement outdoor 3/4 hose bib. (The old one leaked.) It worked fine for a week or two, and now when I turn it on, I have to turn the knob at least halfway for anything to come out. I try to adjust the flow, and when the flow gets low, it just shuts off. Plonk. By adjusting it very gently I can get the flow to stay slow.

What's going on?? I can rip it off and put a new one on, but I'm kinda pissed.

Loose faucet washer.

Thanks. I figured it was something simple like that. I know a loose faucet washer can make noise, but I never heard of it shutting the faucet off. I'll get in there and fix it.
