| I have a Craftsman self-propelled walk behind mower where the front wheel drive stopped working. It has a 7 HP Briggs engine. The problem, as I found out, was the plastic drive gear in the gear case was stripped out.. The gear case has s belt going to a pulley on top. The pulley is attached to a pinion gear that drives the plastic gear, which is mounted, directly on the drive shaft.
The question I have is what kind of lubricant should be used when the new gear is installed and assembled .Should I use Bentonite grease, and how much should I put, or should I use gear oil |

| You can enter your mower's model number into the Sears Parts website to look at its repair manual. The proper lubricant may even come with the new gear as it does for their GDO gears. |
