Exterior door painting question

Posted by kidhorn (My Page) on

I have a new Reliabilt exterior door with 9 lights. I want to paint the door. I noticed the door has some screws holding the glass and glass framing pieces in place and there are some plugs that are supposed to cover the screws up.

I'm wondering if I can remove the screws so I can more easily paint the frame without having to worry about getting paint on the glass and after letting it dry a few days, screw everything back together.

Is this a bad idea?

yes as the screws in addition to small sort of caulk hold the plastic surround together which in turn sandwiches the glass. In other words take the screws out ad the glass insert may fall out
