I purchased a kitchen roof mounted vent fan that only has about 1.5" of flashing on the sides and top.

Do you see this as a potential issue? We average 64" of rain a year. It seems to me that 3 to 4" of flashing would have pretty much eliminated any chance of water getting underneath the unit.

Are you doing the install? If so, there are many ways to flash it reliably. How wide is the flange at the bottom and what is your roofing type?
