Double pane insulated glass leaking

I have 4 patio doors that I have to periodically replace over the 20 years I've lived in my house due to the seals leaking allowing moisture in between the panes of glass. I now have 2 panels that need to be replaced again! One local glass shop recommended I use tempered glass instead of insulated glass as this will aleviate the problem of the seals breaking and I won't have to replace them anymore. My concern is - will this affect resale? will this affect the temperature in that room greatly - it is very hot in summer and very cold in winter, will it look different? It certainly will save me money in the long run. He also priced a low E tempered glass which is only $10.00 less than the insulated glass. Does anyone have any recommendations. Thank you, Wenjen

RE: Double pane insulated glass leaking

I've never heard of insulating vs. tempered effecting the seal, but I'm no glass expert. Out here it is required for patio doors to be tempered glass as well as low-e. Might be your best bet if for nothing else the safety of having tempered glass panels in the doors.
