Sears Craftsman garage door opener. Remotes have no range

I hope someone can help.

I have a Craftsman 1/2 HP opener that is about 1.5 years old. It is model no. 139.53985D. About 1 month ago the range on the remotes began decreasing. Now, I have to get out of the car and walk to the garage door for them to work. It happened to both at the same time. The key pad also does not work at all now.

I called Craftsman and they said that it may be the logic board. Sears said it is under warranty but a serviceman has to come to confirm that is the problem, so he can order it. Before I pay this guy to come, does anyone know anything about this? Also, Craftsman said it may be a frequency problem and I may need a universal frequency remote?

This is driving my wife crazy.

Please help,

Dan

Have you tried unplugging the opener, letting it sit and plugging back in?

As for charges, if it's under warranty and proves faulty, surely you're not up for a service fee.

The fact that both your remotes lost range at the same time is a pretty good indication that the logic board is bad. I don't see how a universal frequency remote would compensate for a bad board.

I wonder if it's a frequency/interference problem with another device. Has a neighbour put in a new GDO or have you just purchased a new wireless internet router, or cordless phone?

Did you put in new batteries?
