Insurance Question

Posted by agentsim (My Page) on

I've recently been dealing with an insurance claim on my condo. Basically everything had to be gutted and rebuilt, at the end of the process a few things just aren't right. We need to negotiate a monetary compensation with the insurance for the deficient parts of the repair.

The two problems are:
1) Chipped marble door sill.
2) Stained granite 2x8 foot kitchen counter top.

How should I go about valuing the damage and/or determining whether the insurance's offer is fair?

RE: Insurance Question

Who hired the contractor(s)? Are you looking for the cash, or getting the work done correctly?
If it was the insurance company that did the contracting, they should not close out the claim until the job is done correctly, or they have paid you what it would cost to get the job fixed (you should get written estimates).

RE: Insurance Question

if you hired it may be your responsibility to negotiate. If the insurance company picked, they should. are you looking for money, or a redo?
